The IndependentCOMMUNITY
BARRHAVEN INDEPENDENT
Busy summer for Riverside South Community Association The Annual Spring Clean-up: A big thank you to everyone involved It has now become a tradition in Riverside South to participate in the big clean-up operation organized by the City of Ottawa the last weekend of April. To add a little spice to it, we even organize a fiercely friendly competition with Findlay Creek. Despite the rain and cool temperatures, it was wonderful to see so many of you helping out and preparing our community for the warm and sunny days. The operation was a tremendous success and we managed to reclaim the Golden Garbage Can from Findlay Creek. Again, thank you to all the volunteers, schools, youth
groups and citizens for your precious contribution. The Canada Flag program: Canada Flag program is back in 2018! The purpose of the program is to inspire national pride by putting up Canadian flags at participants’ homes on key Canadian holidays. The flags will be installed on lawns by volunteers in the week preceding Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving and Remembrance Day, and then removed in the week after. The cost to participate in the program is $40 per year. These fees are used to purchase the supplies for the program, and the money left over is destined
to fund other RSCA initiatives within the community. Registration can be done online through our website. For more information contact canadaflag@riversidesouth. org. Community Garden: We are still in active discussions with the different builders in the community and hope to be able to announce the official start of our first community garden in the coming weeks. All information will be posted to our website as well as on facebook. Get involved in your community, become a volunteer: Our community and our organization are growing steadily. In or-
der to serve you best, we are looking to organize a number of events, set-up workshops and looking at different ways we could help and support the residents and businesses of Riverside South. We are therefore actively seeking residents who would like to get involved in different capacities with the association. If you would like to be involved on a regular basis, we are looking for a webmaster; directors, leads and coordinators for the different
events and programs we are running. We are also looking for people willing to help us with specific events. More information can be found on our website or through volunteers@ riversidesouth.org.
