1. Izaak Walton Inn The Izaak Walton Inn is located in Essex on the border of Glacier National Park. It makes my list for its 30-plus miles of well groomed trails, seasoned guides and unique accommodations. You may opt to go the trails alone if you prefer. The views are spectacular and visitors may choose to spend the night in a restored locomotive or caboose. Equipment rentals are available on site. Its open year-round and rates vary. 2. Bohart Ranch Cross Country Ski Center The Bohart Ranch Cross Country Ski Center is located in Bozeman and features over 30 miles of wide trails with varying degrees of difficulty. I find it to be the perfect place for families because there are some interpretive trails geared towards kids and the prices are right. A day pass will set you back anywhere from $8 to $15 per person and children 6 years of age and younger are admitted for free. It opens daily from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. 3. Stillwater Mountain Lodge The Stillwater Mountain Lodge in Whitefish made my list for its 15-plus miles of trails and pet friendly policies. It offers over 2 miles of trails where you can bring your dog. You may expect to pay $10 to $15 per person. Children 12 years old and younger are admitted gratis. The lodge is open year-round.
