Jack Flint and the Redthorn Sword is the first of a trilogy based on ancient Celtic mythology relating the adventures of Jack and his friend Kerry in parallel worlds accessed through standing stones. Corrie, a chieftan’s daughter whom they meet in Temair, joins them in their quest to save Temair and find their way home to Scotland. With great characters including an evil sorcerer, this fantasy adventure is a gripping read and all the more exciting knowing that Jack Flint and the Spellbinder’s Curse and Jack Flint and the Book of Ways will continue the story of the three friends.
Two friends go through a gateway into another world where a pure evil being tries to steal the key to all gateways from them. They don’t understand what has happened and have to fight for their lives as they try to figure out what has happened to them, why and how to get back home. This is a great book full of action and adventure. The story is fast-paced so you don’t get bored with lots of description and the characters are interesting too. I want to read the 2nd book in the series to see what happens next! I really liked Jack because he is the main character and you learn more about him, but Kerry is intriguing because he is loyal and much more than just a side-kick. If you like reading but don’t want to be bogged down with too much detail, then this is the book for you. Ms Beard, Mile-End Primary School
