Mighty Goliath’s 63rd Season Production Music by Lyrics by Book by Alan Menken Stephen Schwartz Peter Rarnell Based on the Victor Hugo Novel & songs from the Disney film Originally Developed by Disney Theatrical Productions Orchestrations by Michael Starobin Incidental Music and Vocal Arrangements by Michael Kosarin Dance Arrangements by Rob Berman The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com

A Note from Director Timothy Richard (Ricky) Parks - They/He The version of Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” that we know today was first produced at La Jolla Playhouse in 2014 before being transferred to Paper Mill Playhouse. While based upon the 1996 Disney movie, the stage production also brought in many aspects from the book such as changing the ending, the relationships between the characters, and the darker tone that is prevalent in the second act of this musical. While not produced often, I thought this show was perfect for MGP due to the “Story Theatre” structure that calls for large groups and allows for lines to be assigned to everyone in the production. It also gave us the opportunity to bring in an onstage choir to embody the character that is the music of this show. While staying true to the Disney movie, Alan Menken also introduced motifs, songs, and other musical elements from the time period of the show. This show also asks you, as members of the audience, to look into yourself and challenge the way you may see the world and the way you see people. The main theme of this show is “What makes a monster and what makes a man,” asking us to challenge our perceptions of people. There are many heavy topics within this show such as Racism, Assault, and The weaponization of Religion to further your own motives. Quasimodo and Esmeralda are seen as “less than” due to how they look, be it the deformities of Quasimodo or the skin color of Esmeralda. With a story told against the background of beautiful music and the grand cathedral of Notre Dame, please come continued...

on this journey to see how two people hated by society challenges their notions and find peace and friendship with each other. Please enjoy the show and thank you for supporting local theatre. “Collaboration is being open to each other’s ideas and benefiting from each other’s perspectives in an open way.” Alan Menken, Composer of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”

It is with great honor that we as the Board of Directors induct JANINE MACKERT & TONY W RADCA into the MGP HALL OF FAME. Janine Mackert – Jan grew up here in Avon Lake and graduated from Avon Lake High School where Mighty Goliath Productions (MGP) has performed its shows for many years. It is quite fitting that Jan be inducted to MGP’s Hall of Fame on its 65th anniversary as she is the daughter of one of MGP’s founding members, Franc Powell. Franc was in on the ground floor of MGP’s inception back in 1959 with its first production and would be set designer for 14 years on and off through 1983. Jan’s mom, Betty, even got in on the act one year for the 1966 production of Unrest in the West. It is no wonder where Jan developed her love of theater. Her first show with MGP was not until 2000 when MGP put on The Pajama Game and this year marks her 20th season with MGP. In these 20 years, Jan has not only appeared on stage, but she has helped behind the scenes as well. Jan was elected for her first term on MGP’s Board of Directors in 2004 and served as Board President the last 2 years of that term 2005-2006. Jan is currently finishing her second term with the Board this year after having run and been re-elected in 2021 and has served as the Board’s VP of Administration. Jan not only leant her talents to MGP but, she served on the Board and performed for many years with Lorain Community Music Theater and is a member of the choir, Choral Spectrum out of Oberlin. If all that wasn’t enough, Jan tackled producing MGP’s 2023 successful production of SpongeBob the Musical. Jan has also served on MGP’s Marketing Committee for the last 3 years where she continued...

has spread the word of MGP and its mission through countless press releases across a myriad of media outlets. More recently, she spearheaded applying for and getting MGP a grant that enabled MGP to engage American Sign Language interpreters for the first time in its history to perform at the sensory friendly performance on February 4th, 2024! For this and all that Jan has done for MGP, we are forever grateful and are honored to add Janine Mackert to MGP’s Hall of Fame. Tony W Radca - Who knew in 2009 when Tony took his then kindergartner, Kate, to audition for Annie that 15 years later he would be joining the Mighty Goliath Productions Hall of Fame. Therese, Tony's wife, and a member of the Annie ensemble with Kate, told Tony they were looking for help to build the set for Annie. Tony helped build the set for Annie and hasn't stopped building MGP sets since. Tony was promoted to Deck Chief, then Technical Director. The Radca home, and specifically the garage, has become the first staging ground for upcoming shows, as it is the building site and shelter for the homecoming float. Tony jokes it isn't September - it’s MGP season, as the garage begins to take on the look of that year’s show. Finally Tony bought a hitch for his truck so he could even pull the MGP float in the parade. The garage has also become the staging ground for Boo by the Woods, and occasionally the random prop or set piece construction. Tony jokes he has moved MGP to new storage units almost as often as he has moved his kids to and from college. MGP items can often be found in Tony's truck coming to or from the storage unit for events through out the year. When Tony recently purchased his new truck, how he would be using it for MGP was taken into consideration. Tony and Therese not only offer their garage but often offer their home by hosting cast parties. Over the years the entire continued...

Renee White

Props Manager

This is my 5th year in MGP & I am so excited to be a part of this beautiful production! MGP "season" is such a fun couple of months for me & my family. I love see our long time MGP family on Friday nights as well as meeting the new additions to the MGP family.

Maureen Wightman

Bassoon

A trombonist in high school, I had the opportunity to take up bassoon in 2003 at age 47 & haven't looked back!! I'm a lifelong Avon Lake resident & confess I have never attend a single MGP production. The only other pit orchestra experience I have was A Chorus Line for Lorain Community Music Theater back in 2009. I am currently a member of the Bay Village Community Band & the Solon Community Band, where I am also the librarian.

Tom Wrobel

Trumpet

Tom returns for his 2nd time playing in the pit for MGP this year. He is an electrical engineer & has played in multiple ensembles, including other musicals, & enjoyed playing as a member of the Purdue All American Marching Band through college.

Mike Yonek

Viola

Mike is a devoted husband, proud father, canine caregiver, & full-time high school Physics teacher. When he finds time, Mike enjoys playing a variety of instruments, especially the viola. He performs with the Medina community orchestra & the New Horizons Orchestra at Baldwin Wallace University.

Thank you for coming! Enjoy the show!
