From mango slicers and butter dishes, to quality pans and kettles, Oderin Kitchen Supplies manages to pack a big punch into such a small space. Every honey-coloured shelf is filled almost to bursting with 20th and 21st century kitchen tools, cookware, pottery and gadgets. Named after an island off the coast of Newfoundland, this quaint, family-run store is co-owned by a father-daughter duo that takes cooking to a whole new level. Kearney and Amber McGrath opened the downtown gem a little more than 14 years ago; so they must be doing something right. Kearney — affable and talkative to his very core — says it has a lot to do with the one-on-one, personalized service the store has to offer. It may also be due to the range and

quality of the available products. “We do have something for everybody…it just might not be what they came for,” he says with a friendly smile. Boasting a wide and varied selection, Oderin Kitchen Supplies carries the products of a number of respected and well-known companies. If it’s not in stock, it can be ordered, or Kearney will send you somewhere you can find it. “People want things that are the best, things that are reliable,” he says. Le Creuset, says Kearney, is one of the store’s most popular brands. Highlighted in the feature film Julie and Julia, Le Creuset manufactures high-quality enameled cast iron pots, pans and steel kettles. Oderin also boasts a wide selection of Paderno, stainless steel and Lodge cast iron cookware, Zwilling J.A. Henckel knives and Trudeau kitchen accessories. It’s a selection Kearney is proud of — and he can tell you everything about it from how it’s made to how it works.
