The handle material makes these knives a grand and special rarity, made of genuine wild elk antler, but not just any elk antler. The antler comes from the big wild bulls that live on the iconic Elk Song Ranch in the Blue Mountains in Eastern Oregon, a 7000 acre ranch dedicated to the elk and other wild creatures. It is a place where wildness and not humans reign supreme. The creation of these knives takes an entire year, beginning with the first green grass and wildflowers of spring.

KNIVES

Bulls that have been gentle giants all summer begin the transformation into warriors. Young fir, pine and alder bear the brunt; rubbing the soft velvet away and then adding polish and rich color to the new antlers. As September approaches the antlers will begin to serve as swords and armor that will wage war and attract the damsels of the mountain. The cow elk will choose who will sire her calf, the greatness of the bull’s voice and antlers will play heavily in her decision. For an entire month the mountains of Elk Song ring with bugles and the occasional clash of antlers; quiet returns by mid October. The bulls retreat to the thickets, to quiet, often solitary lives and the effort to recover enough weight to be alive in the spring. Those that survive the rut and winter snows shed their antlers on the soft green grass and buttercups. The forge that has created the raw material for these knives had been long and difficult. These naturally shed antlers are collected each spring by Ross and Rich Seyfried. It is these and only these wild Elk Song Antlers that are used for these knives. Individual antlers, with special shape and texture, are selected to provide the material of highest quality for the knife scales. The scales are then hand cut and fitted by renown custom knife maker Kirk Rexroat.

Each Elk Song Knife will carry its own individual serial number and will be limited to only 100 pieces in 2011 and will be accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity by Ross Seyfried, Gary Fadden and Kirk Rexroat.

Suggested retail price is $395.
