Kyle Royer was selected to the ISAA adidas Scholar-Athlete All-American squad three straight years (1988-89-90). Goalkeeper Greg Murphy was both an ISAA Adidas Scholar-Athlete All-America selection as well as a GTE/CoSIDA Fall-Winter At-Large Academic All-American for the 1991 season.

Joe Burch was named to the GTE/CoSIDA Fall-Winter At-Large Academic All-America squad third team in 1995 and first team in 1996. Burch also earned NSCAA ScholarAthlete All-American Honorable Mention following the 1995 campaign.

Back Dave Dyminski was the first BG booter to receive All-America recognition solely for his play on the field. He was named to the NSCAA All-America Honorable Mention squad in 1972 and moved up to the second team in 1973. Midfielder Bud Lewis increased the Falcons’ streak to three consecutive years with his honorable-mention All-America accolades in 1974, and formidable Falcon forward Dennis Mepham received honorable-mention status in 1979.

Midfielder Neil Ridgway was a two-time First-Team All-America selection in 1982 and 1983. Back Jon Felton was named to the third team in 1987, while forward Rob Martella earned first-team recognition following the 1992 campaign.

In November of 2009, Jacob Lawrence became the first BGSU men’s soccer player in a decade to be named an Academic All-American. Lawrence was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic AllAmerica First Team.

BGSU then had six CoSIDA Academic All-America selections in a four-year span. In 2013, Brandon Silva earned Capital One Academic All-America second-team honors, and Pat Flynn duplicated Silva’s feat the following year (2014), as he was named to the second team by Capital One and CoSIDA.

In 2015, Flynn became just the fourth studentathlete in BGSU men’s soccer history to earn Academic All-America First-Team honors, and Joe Sullivan was named to the second team. The 2015 season marked the first time in program history that the Falcons have had two Academic AllAmericans in the same season.

Then, in 2016, both Flynn and Sullivan were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team. Flynn became the first three-time Academic All-American in BGSU men’s soccer history, while Sullivan is only the third Falcon to earn Academic All-America honors twice (joining Flynn and Burch).

Flynn also became the first two-time first-team selection in program history. BGSU was the only NCAA Division-I school in the nation with two first-team selections in 2016.

Brandon Silva speaks after winning an award at the BGSU Athletic Honors Night in April of 2014. Members of the youth team Silva coached (right) attended the banquet in support of Silva.
