Building a stronger generation Since 2010, a new movement started to take over schools, military facilities and government offices in the United Arab Emirates. The JiuJitsu movement. Little by little, the gentle art started to become part of the lives of boys and girls, soldiers and civilians, proving the tools for a much healthier lifestyle. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has a well-documented interest in sports, and in particular, the martial art of Jiu-Jitsu. His Highness has the ambition of making the UAE, and specifically Abu Dhabi, a center for Jiu-Jitsu by designating it as the UAE National Sport. His Highness believes that by practicing the art of Jiu-Jitsu, people can change their mentality and take broad strides towards a brighter and clearer direction. Having seen the positive changes and the impact that Jiu-Jitsu has had on his son’s character and attitude, His Highness says: “If I invest it in my son, I will invest it in my country.” Seven years into the project, over 76,000 students take Jiu-Jitsu classes under 588 Jiu-Jitsu coaches. The project also aims at the UAE Armed Forces and the formation of high level competitors. The future is bright as more and more people will join the effort to make the Emirati people stronger, and healthier.
UAE Jiu-Jitsu Team excels during challenge-filled season The UAE Jiu-Jitsu team spent the past season traveling around the world to defend the country’s colors with a lot of heart and high skills on the mats. The Emirati men and women put on their gis to compete in different places such as Poland, Vietnan, Thailand, Colombia, Brazil, Japan, UK, USA and many others. The outstanding results are a powerful statement of the hard work being done all over the country to find and develop Jiu-Jitsu talents while making the whole country stronger and healthier.
