SYRACUSE CITY History of Syracuse, New York
Teammates: Shiori Green, Jason Mollie, Houston Parke, Yixuan Li
The analysis of Syracuse City aims to analyse the blocks, streets, buildings, public spaces and history of the Central Buisness District(CBD) of Syracuse. My groups mainly focused on the history of Syracuse and the Central Buisness District(CBD). History of Syracuse can be seperate into different parts such as urban changes, transportations and buildings structures, at the time, they are all related together. In a nutshell, the history of Syracuse embodies a symbiotic relationship between industry and transportation characterized by sucsession and adaption to a rapidly changing economic landscape.

IDEA STORE Urban Design and Facades Analysis of Idea Store on Chrisp Street Teammates: Astra Sun The Idea Store brand isn’t just a series of libraries. They change the traditional role of a library, a scholarly place for research, to a place of ed- ucation for everyone in the community. It adds services like professional skill classes and work- shops to the program. The Idea Store becomes a lively community hub for an area that previously had what was considered by some, the worst public library services in London. The Idea Store can be seen from 2 different points of view, by users, from the interior, and by passersby, from the exterior. The interior view is more informative of the program locations while the exterior view of the facade slightly hints at program and focuses more on addressing the context.

URBAN SURFACES Precedent Research and Designing facades On Hanover Square, Syracuse
Hanover Square is one the three site that was assigned to me, and we were asked to design facades for the new building. The designs of the facades in this exercise were inspirations from the analysis of different buildings we did in Exercise 2. Hunter’s Point Community Library and Idea Store on Chrisp Street were initially used as the precedent research for designs of the different facades alterations. Hunter’s point Community library’s carving facade and bookshelves in between the facade from Idea Store were part of my main concepts behind the design. Also, Exeter library’s layering facades idea was used in my final facade designs.

Layers Building Precedent Research and Designing facades On Hanover Square, Syracuse
In considering the historical context, Hanover square is a suitable site to build an archive building as the part of the main site in the history of Syracuse. My main concept for this building is about the transitions from the center of the building to the outer layers of the building while experiencing different spatial conditions. Both outer layers with more openings to the sunlight mainly provide views to the people in the building as the Hanover Square has vibrant historical views and a beautiful courtyard at the back of the building. The main circulation in my building was similar to the Eberswale technical School library as the building only has two vertical circulations in the building to keep the circulation simple and efficient.
