Nachman and Katzman win Bible Quiz by LOIS EPSTEIN Henry Monsky Lodge #3306 It came right down to the wire in the championship round. Ben Nachman matched each correct response given by Rochi Katzman, question after question. The outcome was not decided until the final question. And it was a tie! Both contestants achieved a perfect score. Amazingly, while there have been ties for first place before, in the 22 years of the quiz, no one has ever earned 240 points, the top score possible. Interestingly enough, the two did not win their preliminary rounds. Those honors went to Aaron Priluck and Tali Levin who each won their respective rounds to advance to the finals. However, neither could match the precision and pace of Rochi or Ben. Aaron captured the third position to take a $250 prize. Tali Levin placed fourth and won $125. The other championship round finalists in order of the final standings were Chani Katzman, Melanie Long, and Ygal Schuller.

All contestants who correctly answered three or more questions received a $10 cash prize at the end of the evening. Rochi Katzman and Ben Nachman each garnered $50 for their first place honors. Steve Riekes chaired the Bible Quiz committee and was helped by Gary Javitch, Gloria Kaslow, Stan Mitchell, and Ray Millimet who also ran the program. Scholar-Judges were Drs. Guy Matalon and Leonard Greenspoon and cantors Wendy Shermet and Gaston Bogolmoni. Temple Israel, Beth El, Beth Israel, and the Chabad House rabbis, the religious staffs and BBYO director Rachel Blum contributed greatly to the successful outcome of the program, which took place despite the closing of the schools earlier in the day because of ice and snow.

Participants and judges are: winner Ben Nachman, front row left, Stan Mitchell, Gloria Kaslow, Lev Nachman, Ari Brodkey, Gary Javitch; second row: Ray Millimet, Steve Riekes, Adam Goldberg, Max Halstead, Ygal Schuller, Melanie Long (hidden), Charles Parsow, Macklin Emas, Dr. Guy Matalon, Aaron Priluck, Tali Levin, winner Rochi Katzman, and Chani Katzman; (not pictured: David Anderson and Henry Ginsburg).
