MARRIAGES OLESH/PRENDERGAST Mara Renee Olesh and Patrick James Prendergast were married Sept. 13, 2008 at Magnolia Hotel in Omaha. The Honorable Judge Mark Ashford officiated the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Olesh. She received her bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and works for Kiewit. The Maid of Honor was Jennifer Friedman of Chicago. Bridesmaids were Heather Jagher of Chicago, sister of bride, Stephanie Olesh, sister of bride, and Emily Prendergast, sister of groom. Flowergirl was Zoe Jagher of Chicago, niece of bride. The groom, son of Michael Predergast and the late Margaret Prendergast, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and also is employed by Kiewit. Best man was Michael Prendergast, Jr. Groomsmen were Ryan Olesh of Manhattan, KS, brother of bride; Kevin McGovern, and Scott Steingraber of Lakeside, AZ, friends of the groom. Ring bearers were Michael and Caden Prendergast, nephews of the groom. He is the grandson of Madeline Dineen. Following a wedding trip to Maui and Oahu, Hawaii, the couple returned to their home in Phoenix, AZ.
BURHENN/MALASHOCK Michelle Leah Burhenn and Ryan Daniel Malashock, both of Lowell, AR, were married on Aug. 31, 2008, in Lawrence, KS. Rabbi Debbie Stiel officiated at the ceremony at South Park. A reception followed at The Eldridge Hotel. The bride, daughter of Sheryl and Russell Burhenn, of Topeka, KS, graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism. She is a designer and copy editor for The Morning News of Northwest Arkansas in Springdale, AR. She is the granddaughter of Darlene Anderson of Great Bend, KS, the late Floyd Anderson, Leah Burhenn of Hoisington, KS, and the late Vernon Burhenn. The maid of honor was Marissa Stephenson of Brooklyn, NY. Bridesmaids were Shannon Burhenn of Topeka, and Erin Malashock of Kansas City, MO. The groom, son of Jody and Neal (Buzz) Malashock, graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism. He is a sportswriter for The Morning News of Northwest Arkansas in Springdale, AR. He also is a sports columnist for the Omaha City Weekly. He is the grandson of Barbara and Stanley Malashock of Rancho Mirage, CA, and the late Esther and David Rice. Best men were Eric Goodman of Powell, OH, Eric Hamburg, New York, and Chad Tettenborn of Omaha. The couple plan a May 2009 honeymoon to Belize.
BIRTHS Overland Park, KS announce the Aug. 19 birth of their daughter, Livia Elise, named for her great-grandmother Etta Mehlinger. She has a sister, Keely Alana. Grandparents are Marti Rosen-Atherton and John Atherton, Debbie and Steve Heurtz of Lee’s Summit, MO, Rodney and Ruth Wright of Independence, MO, and the late Allan Forman. Great-grandparents are Malcolm Mehlinger of Encino, CA, the late Etta Mehlinger, and the late Bertha Pessen and David Forman.
Atarah and Avi Block of Passaic, NJ anounce the Oct. 10 birth of their daughter, Shayna Leah, named for her young relative who was murdered in the Holocaust. She has a sister, Sarah Miryl.
