Prof. Terry Clark to Discuss ‘War on Terror’ by DIANE AXLER BAUM for Beth El Synagogue Dr. Terry Clark, regarded as both a scholar and an exciting speaker, will keynote a luncheon following Shabbat morning services at Beth El Synagogue, on Feb. 21. Presented by the “seasoned’ n spicy” citizens of Hazak, he will focus on "The Current Status of the War on Terror.” Dr. Clark is professor of political science and director of the Graduate Program in International Relations at Creighton University. He has been instrumental in the development of Creighton’s exchange program with universities in Eastern Europe. A specialist in comparative politics and international relations, Clark is the author of three books and of numerous articles pub-
lished in major journals devoted to the study of post-Communist Europe. His research interests include the development of democratic institutions and the evolution of public opinion supporting such institutions in Lithuania and Russia. Dr. Clark holds a BS from the United States Military Academy at West Point; MA degrees from both the University of Illinois and the University of Oklahoma; and a PhD. from the University of Illinois. Cost of the luncheon, which is open to the community, is $7.50 for members of Hazak, $9.50 for other adults, and $5 for children. Babysitting will be available at no charge. BAT MITZVAH Avery Hannah Lehr, daughter of Sandy and John Lehr, will celebrate her Bat Mitzvah on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Temple Israel. Avery is a seventh-grader at Westside Middle School, where she is a Distinguished Scholar. She participated in the People to People Student Ambassadorship last summer and travelled to the Grand Canyon with the Iowa/Nebraska delegation. She has appeared in several community theater productions. She enjoys dance, tap, jazz,
ballet classes, traveling, tennis, spending time with her friends, and summers at Birch Trail Camp. She won third place honors in the District 66 K i w a n a s S p e e c h Contest in sixth grade. For her mitzvah project, she volunteered at the Child Development Center Summer Camp at the Jewish Community Center. Avery has a younger brother, Jacob. Her grandparents are Gail and Gene Smoler of Farmington Hills, MI, and Joanie and Martin Lehr.
