YOU ARE THE MIRACLE OIL. You, through your generosity, are the miracle that builds enduring community – bringing light to the darkness in the enduring spirit of Chanukah. In times of rising anti-Semitism, fires ravaging Israel, kassams terrorizing Sha’ar HaNegev, survivors struggling in frigid Ukraine, you help make possible a lasting, inspiring, bright, and vibrant global Jewish future. As we count our blessings this Chanukah, we have you to thank for the countless lives we touched this year – all made possible by the miracle of your generosity!

The Jewish Federation of San Diego County is pleased to announce that as of October 1, 2016, we have been awarded the coveted 4-star rating by the prestigious Charity Navigator for demonstrating strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency. Only a quarter of rated charities have achieved this distinction. We are delighted that our rating shows that our donors can rest easy knowing their donation is being used responsibly and making a difference around the world. We look forward to continuing to serve the Jewish community wherever there is need.

Last month, Federation’s Board of Directors voted to substantially increase support of our collaborative work to create a vibrant, caring, and connected Jewish community. In the coming years, we will increase our investment in Federation’s community-wide collaborations and accelerate efforts to deepen engagement in Jewish life, foster dynamic connections with Israel, and provide relief to Jews in need. Through momentous efforts like Motiv, Shalom San Diego and PJ Library, we are investing your generosity to create meaningful, lasting impact for years to come.

moving to the Oceanside area, it has become apparent that there are very few affiliated or Jewishly active families in our neighborhood, and I am looking forward to being a Jewish community connector.” Under the leadership of Shalom San Diego Program Manager Brenda Silvers, Federation can help those new to the community and looking for more information to explore all that San Diego has to offer. Over the next three years, Federation will expand the number of community connectors who serve as a resource for those wanting help navigating our ever-changing Jewish landscape and searching for more meaningful Jewish experiences. ✡

TEEN SERVICE SUMMIT BY MOTIV Motiv is the cornerstone of the Jewish Teen Initiative that began in late 2015. The San Diego Jewish community was selected as one of 10 cities to r receive a $3.1 million matching grant over five years for Jewish teen engagement from the Jim Joseph Foundation, awarded to Federation and the Lawrence Family JCC. On December 4, more than 200 high school students filled Montezuma Hall at San Diego State University for the first Teen Service Summit hosted by Motiv. Motiv is dedicated to helping all high school teens throughout San Diego Find, Participate and Inspire volunteer service, offering a unique online platform for teens to track their service.

The theme of the day was “Love Something? Volunteer It” to help connect teens’ talents and passions to impact community. The teens heard personal stories from pro artists, athletes and entrepreneurs about their community service. More than 50 San Diego nonprofit organization participated in an expo that features volunteer opportunities for the teens. In addition teens experienced interactive workshops and hand-on service projects during the day. ✡

Look forward to the full launch going live early 2017
