he Yeshiva University community mourns the passing of Leah Adler (nee Jeselsohn), a”h, Head Librarian of the Mendel Gottesman library, long-time Five Towns resident, and member of Shaaray Tefila in Lawrence, New York. Born in Tel Aviv, Leah moved to Switzerland at age 11, where she later studied Microbiology at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in Zurich before marrying Dr. Mark Adler and moving to the United States. Leah was fluent in English, Hebrew, German and Swiss German. She served as Head Librarian for more than 33 years and played an integral role in the library’s movement into the digital age as well as in the recent library renovation. Leah worked with scholars from far and wide, a position for which her knowledge of Judaic Studies and languages served her well. She held various roles for the Association of Jewish Libraries on both a national and local level. She published a number of publications in the field of Judaic librarianship, which contributed significantly to the field.

Leah was brilliant: a gifted librarian with expertise in Jewish Literature, classical and European languages, and technology. She was a warm, supportive person – always kind. Her absence will be deeply felt. A tribute remembering Leah Adler will take place on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 6 p.m., at the Mendel Gottesman Library, fifth floor. The address is 515 West 185th Street, New York, NY 10033. Enter through the Glueck Center on the 185th Street Plaza. RSVP to dalen@yu.edu and request parking if necessary. Refreshments will be served and the event is sponsored by the Yeshiva University Libraries and Office of the Provost.
