Oh, what a night! Despite inclement weather, the 47th Annual Dinner of Yeshiva Sh’or Yoshuv was well attended and a huge success. Over 500 guests gathered at the Sands of Atlantic Beach for an evening to show gratitude to Sh’or Yoshuv, meet old and new friends, and pay tribute to three outstanding families: Rabbi and Mrs. Zev Freundlich, recipients of the Reb Shlomo Freifeld Memorial Award; Marc and Sharon Friedman, recipients of the Kesser Shem Tov Award; Pesach and Matty Sod, the recipients of the Community Service Award. Highlights from this year’s dinner included warm words of inspiration from the Rosh HaYeshiva, Rabbi Naftali Jaeger, and the Menahel, Rabbi Avrohom Halpern, the video award presentations to the well-deserving awardees, and an informative video about the Yeshiva and all of its accomplishments. The success of the Annual Dinner and the Yeshiva as a whole is due to the unwavering support of the extended Sh’or Yoshuv community.

Several students from the Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls participated in the annual Yeshiva University mission to Washington, D. C. Juniors Yehudis Ash, Miriam Boim, Naomi Eisner, Alissa Fagin, Talia Ginsberg and Ahuva Ross, senior Tova Fertig and their chaperone, and alumna Miriam Khukhashvili, had the opportunity to lobby congressmen and women on issues relating to Israel. The event began on Sunday, December 8, at Stern College for Women where the SKA girls, along with many other students from schools across the New York and New Jersey area, met to learn about various lobbying techniques. They enjoyed a delicious lunch and worked together in groups discussing the many conflicts Israel faces. The next morning, the girls woke up bright and early to meet up with the rest of the schools at Yeshiva University to depart on their trip to Washington, D. C. After a long bus ride, they arrived at the Israeli Embassy where they heard from the Counselor of Congressional Affairs.
Following their visit to the embassy, they headed to their meeting with one of Senator Kristen Gillibrand’s aides to discuss Israel’s relationship with America and the potential threat that a nuclear Iran poses to both America and Israel. Going on this lobbying trip was an important means to be a voice for Israel!
