S BAILEY (1977) has retired from parochial ministry in the Anglican Church of Australia and is happily supporting his wife, Jane, in her continuing teaching career. H BEVAN (2011) was awarded The Princess Royal Silver Medal for 2022 for her outstanding contribution to UK engineering. Heba founded and runs UtterBerry Ltd, a wireless sensor system that consists of a collection of miniature, artificially intelligent, ultra-low-power sensors. Its technology has been used in a variety of major national infrastructure projects including London ’ s Crossrail and Thames Tideway, with customers including Network Rail, London Underground, Thames Water, Laing O’Rourke, Costain, BAM and BFK. R CASALE (1986) organised an event in the name of climate action with The World Relay, called Running Out of Time. It’ s the longest non-stop relay ever attempted and a world record. The mass participation run covered 7700 km and 18 countries from Scotland to COP27 in Egypt. With over 250,000 participants, the relay has inspired more people to take steps together to accelerate local climate action (www.carboncopy.eco). J R BOWEN (1998) was awarded a CBE in the Queen ’ s Birthday Honours for his work in Public Service. Mr Bowen is a Director for International Agreements and Trade at the Department for Exiting the European Union. G S COLE (1985) was appointed Team Rector of Leominster in the Diocese of Hereford in October 2021. T A DARNTON (1986) has published a YA thriller, Ready or Not. This is her third book following her Waterstone ’ s Children ’ s Book Prize shortlisted The Truth About Lies (2018) and 2020’ s The Rules. Ready or Not is published by Little Tiger Press Group. J I DUNNETT (1967) held an exhibition of stone carvings, paintings and bronze sculpture that explored the potential of the human figure for spatial and votive expression entitled ‘Of Geometry and Gods, Side by Side ’ . Supported by the Arts Council, the exhibition ran from 7 April to 1 May 2022 at the National Trust’ s Sandham Memorial Chapel in Berkshire. M W FINNIS (1968) was elected to Fellow of the Royal Society. He is the Chair in Materials Theory and Simulation at the Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London, and co-founder of the Thomas Young Centre, the London Centre for Theory and Simulation of Materials and Molecules. R C J FLEMING (1971) retired to Cornwall in 2016 where he is now Captain of the Cornwall over 60s cricket 1st XI who won the ECB National Vase Competition in 2021 and also won the South West Regional group in 2022 before losing in the knockout stages of the Senior Cup Competition. M A GREEN (1983) was received by The Prince of Wales (pictured), on behalf of The Queen in March 2022 (upon his appointment as Justice of the High Court when His Royal Highness conferred upon him the honour of Knighthood and invested him with the Insignia of Knights Bachelor in November 2020).
J HAROUNOFF (2013) co-authored an op-ed with the deputy mayor of Jerusalem, Fleur Hassan-Nahoum, on how momentum for the Abraham Accords is soaring. This is based on a litany of new business and defence cooperation agreements being signed, and how new signatories of the accords from the Arab world, including the UAE or Morocco, might play a bigger role in brokering peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. A C HARVEY (2006) won the Prix Pierre Verne Prize at the 7th Paris Opera Competition. The Competition, which took place this year at Paris Opera ’ s Palais Garnier, exists to uncover and promote the opera stars of tomorrow. One of nine finalists, she sang her favourite roles in the final: Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito), Hänsel (Hänsel and Gretel), and Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier). S IQBAL (2018) was awarded The Diana Award, a prestigious accolade for young people aged 9-25 years for their social action or humanitarian work. He is the founder of Team UPside, a youth-led community organisation based in Ealing, West London, which works to widen access to higher education for less-advantaged students. S J IRWIN (1972) retired as a full-time Justice of Appeal in October 2020, although still sits as a deputy. He has been appointed as the first Chair of the House of Commons Independent Panel of Experts, ruling on discipline cases for Members of Parliament. He has also become Chair of the Slynn Foundation, a charity providing support and training to judges around the world. I C KEMP (1978) became Mayor of Ware in May 2021 for one year. He has also published an expanded third edition of his book, Pinch Analysis for Energy and Carbon Footprint Reduction: A user guide to process integration for the efficient use of energy. He retired from GSK in 2019 as a Scientific Leader and is now working as an independent consultant. G C KILLINGWORTH (1968) has published a collection of poems entitled Emptying Houses (Dempsey & Windle Poetry Press, 2022). L KLIMAS (1986) was appointed a personal Chaplain to the Queen. Rev Canon Klimas was one of the first women to be ordained as a priest and joins a select group of up to 35 chaplains who make themselves available to the Queen. L M LINKLATER (1991) was appointed Queen ’ s Counsel in December 2021. H H C Y LONGWORTH (2013) became Editor of the Schubert Institute UK’ s quarterly journal, The Schubertian, in September 2021. Founded in 1991, the journal contains Schubert-related news items, articles, reflections, reviews and more. S J MILLER (1961) and his wife Judy celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary on 17 July 2021. D R RAAB (1997) was appointed Deputy Prime Minister, Justice Secretary and Lord Chancellor in September 2021. M RADIVIOJEVIC (2015) was main author and lead editor of The Rise of Metallurgy in Eurasia: Evolution, Organisation and Consumption of Early Metal in the Balkans. It is published by Archaeopress and is fully open access. P A RAY (1965) was awarded an OBE for services to the community in Cambridgeshire. I H SAMUEL (1991) was awarded an OBE in the Queen ’ s Birthday Honours for services in Heritage. Dr Samuel is an Historic Environment Director at the National Trust and Acting Chair of The Heritage Alliance.
V F P SEIDEL (1997) was promoted to Professor and Metropoulos Term Chair in Innovation Management at Babson College in Massachusetts, USA. S H SHAHEEN (2004) was re-elected to Hounslow London Borough Council in the May 2022 elections and promoted to Cabinet Member for Parking, Parks and Leisure in the new administration. He also began a new role as Director of Communications at T4 Education. R L M SHEPTON (1955) is a highly experienced Arctic explorer who has led several sailing and climbing expeditions to Greenland and Arctic Canada in his yacht, the Westerly 33 ft sloop ‘Dodo's Delight’ . He has written three books, Addicted to Adventure, Addicted to More Adventure and High Latitude Sailing. He has been awarded the Blue Water Medal, the Tilman Medal (twice), the Goldsmith Medal for Exploration, the Barton Cup (twice), Vasey Vase (three times) and the Vice Commodore ’ s Medal (three times). He was voted Yachtsman of the Year (UK) 2013 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020 and has just been made an Honorary Member of the Ocean Cruising Club. R G STEWART-LIBERTY (2013) has taken sabbatical from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and is studying for a Masters in Global Thought at Columbia University, New York. M W L TOOMBS (1996) was awarded a CBE in the Queen ’ s Birthday Honours for his work in Public Service. Mr Toombs is a Director of Campaigns and Engagement, COP26 in Cabinet Office.
J W TREMBERTH (1962) became custodian of his families ’ archives when his brother M F TREMBERTH (1957) died in 2016. Certain aspects of their family history were of general interest beyond the purely family context including their paternal grandparents' Methodist missionary service in China and their father ’ s artworks, particularly those with Cornish subjects. Since 2019, he has been a regular contributor to the publications of two Cornish historical societies, namely the Cornish Methodist Historical Association and the John Harris Society. M H I TURNER and R LEVY (both 2019) launched BlueProof, a web design agency focussing on marrying functionality and aesthetics. A M YOUNG (2004) was one of six women in STEM to be awarded the first ever COVID Unsung Hero crowns by the Women in Science and Engineering Campaign. The awards were presented by HRH Princess Anne, in recognition of women who helped to improve lives and communities during the pandemic. S J YOUNG (1970) was awarded a CBE in the Queen ’ s Birthday Honours for his work and contributions to software engineering. Professor Young is Emeritus Professor in the Information Engineering Division at Cambridge University. His research interests lie in the area of spoken language systems, including speech recognition, speech synthesis and dialogue management.
