The Historic Fort
Edith Laurin Executive Director
The Fort is a massive adobe brick structure, which was patterned after Sutter’s Fort in Sacramento, California. It is slightly larger than the original. It was completed and dedicated on May 22, 1940.

J&D Recycling
J&D Recycling was founded in 1993 and our orginal location was on 312 Lincoln Street in the parking lot of 11C Market. We then expanded to a second location on 4th Street in the ally behind the Pilot Plaza (Safeway Shopping Center). In 2003 we purchased the old McKee Electric buildings at 1277 Kern Street. Our new warehouse had ample room to recycle in the shade during those hot summer months and keep you out of the rain in the cold winner season. We are a family owned business. Dean and Jan Rowden have been married since 1974. Their daughter Becky and her husband Neil have worked for J&D Recycling since high school.

Founded by Jerry Melton in 1972 with 12 employees, the company has grown in nearly 40 years to more than 80 employees, and fields over 100 construction vehicles, including welding trucks, A frame trucks, hydrocranes, dumptrucks and backhoes. The family run business is managed and staffed by Jerry & Judy Melton, Karen Havens, Linda Folger and sons Steve Melton & Greg Melton.

Huddleston Crane, located in Taft offers more than just crane, trucking and hauling services, but a sense of local and community support. Huddleston Crane has been serving the Westside for 35 years and newest owner, Dave Noerr purchased the company 16 1/2 years ago. Huddleston Crane is raising the standards for crane safety. Not only does Huddleston Crane take safety seriously but in the past 16 ½ years the company has had an RIR (recordable incident rate) of 0.00.
