The Old Man and the Sea Once there was a talented old fisherman, named Santiago. Other fisherman mocked and made fun of him. They thought he was too old and couldn't could fish anymore. He had not caught a fish in 84 days. His eyes showed he was Cheerful and undefeated. He had to prove to himself and the others that he was still able to catch fish. For many years a young boy, named Manolin had fished with him. But he no longer could go out with The Old Man. Manolin's parents had made him leave to work in a more prosperous boat. The Old Man would have to try to catch a fish alone. Manolin Helped the old man get his gear and took it to his house.

Before sunrise the next morning, Manolin and The Old Man carry the gear to the boat. Manolin wishes the old man good luck, and The Old Man rows away from the shore out into the deep water of the Gulf Stream. He rows farther and farther out, following a seabird as his guide. Soon The Old Man catches a 10 pound tuna, that he will use it for bait. He realizes that he has sailed so far out that he can no longer see the green of the shore. There is a tugging at his line, he suspects it will be a very large Marlin. The fish is pulling the boat, and now Santiago can see no land. The Old Man and the fish struggle all night as the fish pulls the boat and Santiago braces the line with his back and holds it tight in his hands.

The Old Man and the Sea The Old Man was very tired and thirsty, but refused to give up! Oh how he wished Manolin was there to help him. The fish pulled The Old Man down on his face. His eye was cut and blood dripped from a cut below his eye. “Fish,” he said softly, aloud, “I’ll stay with you until I am dead. The Old man decided to eat some tuna that he caught earlier. He need to keep up his strength if he hoped to catch the Marlin Suddenly, the fish leaped into the air. It is bigger than he imagined! “He is two feet longer than the skiff,” Santiago said. The Old Man had caught many fish, but never one this big, and never alone.

The Old Man was tired as he had not yet slept. He thought he continue without sleeping, but felt it would be too dangerous. He ate a dolphin filet that he had from earlier and soon fell asleep. Suddenly there was a jerk on the line, and his hand started to burn from the tugging line. What had upset the fish? The Old Man was seeing black spots before his eyes for an hour and the sweat was burning his cut. Feeling faint and dizzy was starting to worry him. Soon he felt a sudden jerk on the line. He must hold his pain in, it does not matter he thought. “I have no cramps, I must last, he said. Soon the fish was close enough and The Old Man harpooned the great fish.

The Old Man and the Sea He had to prepare everything, then bring him in and lash him well and set sail for home. All of a sudden there was a shark! It had came up to investigate the dark cloud of blood from the great fish. The shark came towards the great fish that the old man had worked so very hard to catch. The Old Man raised his harpoon, but not before the shark got a good bite from the fish. Soon the sun had risen and the fish was still was not tired. Fish,” he said, “I love you and respect you very much. But I will kill you dead before this day ends.” His back had become stiff during the night and it really hurt now. Something pulled, and he noticed his hand bleeding. “You’re feeling it now, fish,” he said. “And so, God knows, am I.”

The shark got 40 pounds of the old mans fish. It also got his harpoon. He felt sorry he had killed the fish and felt that a bad time was coming. Two hours later he spotted two more sharks. They were coming for the fish meat. One came under the boat and shook it as the other one watched. The Old Man hit it with a knife, but it hardly went in at all. He was too old to club sharks to death and that they had beaten him. The sharks went down in the water and The Old Man was soaking his hands in the sea. He hoped to see land soon. Just before sunset the sharks returned. He clubbed them and they retreated.

The Old Man and the Sea At about midnight sharks showed up to finish eating The Old Man fish. He tried to hit them with a club, but one of the sharks took it. He took the tiller from the rudder and used it against the shark. He hit the shark and the shark let go of the fish, but the meat was gone! The old man spotted the lights on the shore. He wondered what had beaten him, “Nothing,” he said aloud. “I went out too far.” When he got to the shore it was dark and all the lights were out. It was quiet and everyone was in bed. He tied up his fishing boat and seen the reflection of what was left of the great fish. There was nothing but a skeleton left. He picked up his mast to make his way to his house. Its was so heavy he needed to rest five times.

The Old Man and the Sea Once inside his house he leaned the mast against the wall and drank from water bottle he found. He laid on the bed and went to sleep. The morning came and Manolin saw the old man’s hands and began to cry. As he went to get coffee he continued to cry down the road. Fishermen were around the skiff looking at the skeleton of the fish. They measured it and it was 18 feet from the nose to the tail

Manolin brought Santiago the coffee and the Old man tells him,“They beat me, Manolin ”,“They truly beat me.” The Old Man offered his spear to Manolin, and he accepted the gift. Manolin asked the old man if he could to fish with him again. The old man said he is unlucky and what would Manolin parents say? Manolin doesn't care, he want to learn and fish with the old man. The old man went back to sleep and the boy was sat by him watching. The old man was dreaming about the lions.
