To whom it may concern, I am writing to provide a personal and professional reference for Jessica Clare Graham, who was employed at Base Architecture from November 2006 until October 2011. Jessica began her career at Base as a second year architecture student and has always shown initiative in rising to new challenges, starting with her first renovation project for which she completed sketch design through to building approval documentation within her first three months of employment (Taylor Residence at Sandgate). Since then, Jessica went onto complete more complex residential and commercial projects, collaborating with myself, external consultants, including structural and hydraulic engineers, builders, town planners, surveyors, joiners and other trades and representatives from various suppliers. Over the years, Jessica has cultivated close working relationships and has always maintained up to date and informed on the latest products and materials and the companies a nd people who supply them. At the time of her departure from Base Architecture, Jessica had recently completed detailed sketch design through to construction documentation for the following projects: • Warran Road – A 2 storey house at Coolum, whose brief was to facilitate use of the building as one cohesive house for large family gatherings, as well as two self-‐contained living environments, with the owner residing in the upper level and potential for holiday rental of the lower level. Jessica worked closely with the client in refining the structural, spatial and detailed sketch design, and also worked closely with Westera Partners consulting engineers to explore structural options which optimized efficiency and cost, whilst remaining true to the original concept and ideas. From this point, Jessica documented the project for Council approval, building approval, tender, and construction, coordinating scheduling and construction detailing with the client and builder. She also initiated and managed the tender process, which was quite extensive due to the detailed level of documentation provided, facilitating meetings between client and builder, through to the signing of the contract. Whilst Base Architecture did not administer the contract for this project, Jessica did play a role in solving on-‐site issues, providing detailed 3D models, hand-‐drawn details and verbal advice on some issues that arose on site. • Yates Avenue – A 3 storey house at Ashgrove, which, based on its elevated location, aimed to take maximum advantage of panoramic city views, whilst providing privacy to the family of four. Jessica played a role in this project from the sketch design phase, which was extensive, due to a heavily revised budget early in the design process. Almost 100 sqm was successfully removed from the original design scheme, whilst retaining all views and spatial function. Furthermore, Jessica facilitated negotiation regarding the structural design of the house, ensuring that cost efficiency was further optimized in this manner.
