Sense of Place

Historical Reference

RETAIL/ STORE PLANNING

Alaska Commercial Company Sitka, AK

After a change in ownership, this small town Alaskan grocer needed help updating an aging decor package, and overcoming negative community perceptions. Several plane trips, customer interviews, and focus groups later, strategies started taking shape. New finishes, expanded community areas, improved lighting, and a touch of local heritage helped redefine perceptions and set the tone for a new shopping experience locals would enjoy and connect with.

A BRIGHT NEW BEGINNING

RETAIL/ STORE PLANNING

Vidalia Marketplace Lansdale, PA

HITTING A TARGET

The pre-design phase of this project included research into the demographics and lifestyle patterns of local consumers. This information was then used to determine who the target customer would be, their shopping preferences, and personal characteristics The end goal was to create a store this person would enjoy and connect with, while still maintaining a strong connection to the community as a whole.

RETAIL/ STORE PLANNING

La Superior Stockton, CA

Although somewhat pleased with their current decor package, La Superior’s owners knew it was time to refresh their tired look. Design concepts were created utilizing existing elements in new ways and giving others a much needed update. New fixtures, finishes and materials were added giving the final design the fresh new face it needed.

RENEW, REFRESH AND REUSE

RETAIL/ STORE PLANNING

Fred Meyer Beaverton, OR

With one of their main departments losing touch with a younger and more technological generation, Fred Meyer began looking for solutions to unite several scattered departments into a single, more relevant one. Books, Music, Electronics, and School Supplies, combined with new fixtures, finishes and decor would form the Family Entertainment experience.

RETAIL/ STORE PLANNING

Al Meera Qatar

After years of existing as the only store in town, Al Meera was struggling to keep pace with newer and more luxurious stores. The owners pulled out all the stops and Al Meera was transformed into an entirely new kind of store with the exotic lure the region is know for.

RETAIL/ STORE PLANNING

Amapola

Paramount ,CA

A small and successful market in Southern California, Amapola has now been owned by the same family for three generations. Even with this strong sense of history and customer loyalty, the owners recognized a need to reach the younger and slightly more “Americanized” generation. The result is fresh new look that connects past and present, and one that will help this family business continue serving its community for many years to come.
