Temple Grandin October 30th at 4:45PM The UM School of Education and Human Development Diversity Committee and the Teaching and Learning Department’s Project Include will be screening the movie “Temple Grandin.” Starring Golden Globe winner Claire Danes, Julia Ormond, Catherine O’Hara and David Strathairn, Temple Grandin paints a picture of a young woman’s perseverance and determination while struggling with the isolating challenges of autism at a time when it was still quite unknown.

Heart Saver CPR with AED November 8 at 7:00PM The Basic Life Support for healthcare providers covers core material such as adult and infant CPR (including two-rescuers scenario and use of the bag mask), foreign-body airway obstruction and automated external HI½FVMPPEXMSR %)( 8LMW GSYVWI MW for healthcare providers such as EMS personnel, physician assistants, doctors, dentists, nurses, and respiratory therapists who must have a card documenting successful completion of a CPR course. The class is Thursday, November 8th, from 3:00PM to 7:00PM. The cost is $60 for student members, $70 for non-student members and $80 for non-members.

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellowship Program Deadline: November 12th

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship Deadline: December 14th

National Institute of Health/ Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program Deadline: January 2nd

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is a private, RSRTVS½X SVKERM^EXMSR HIHMGEXIH XS advancing cooperation between nations and promoting active international engagement by the United States. The Junior Fellows Program at the Carnegie Endowment is designed to provide a substantive work experience for students who have a serious career interest in the area of international affairs. Approximately 8-10 students will be hired to work at the Carnegie Endowment in Washington, DC on a full-time basis for a year. The NDSEG Fellowship is a highly competitive fellowship that is awarded to U.S. citizens and nationals who intend to pursue a doctoral degree in SRI SJ ½JXIIR WYTTSVXIH HMWGMTPMRIW NDSEG confers high honors upon its recipients, and allows them to attend whichever U.S. institution they choose.

The National Institutes of Health Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program is an individualized doctoral training program for outstanding science students committed to biomedical research careers. Students undertake a collaborative Ph.D. project in any area of biomedical investigation with two-research mentors-one at the NIH intramural campus in Bethesda, MD and one at either Oxford or Cambridge Universities in the UK. National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program Deadline: November 13th - 19th The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSFGRFP) has a long history of selecting recipients who achieve high levels of success in their future academic and professional careers. If you are planning to attend graduate WGLSSP MR JEPP EVI E ½VWX ]IEV KVEHYEXI WXYHIRX SV EVI MR XLI ½VWX semester of your second year in graduate school, then you are within the eligible amount of completed graduate study. Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program Deadline: December 14th The Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program is an opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) disciplines to receive a full scholarship and be gainfully employed upon degree completion. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowships Undergraduate Deadline: February 7th Graduate Deadline: January 21st This program develops a source of trained men and women dedicated to representing America’s interests abroad with diverse academic disciplines relevant to international affairs, which represent the Department’s skill needs. The Undergraduate Fellowship funds participants as they prepare, academically and professionally, to enter the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service while the Graduate Fellowship strives to attract exceptional students who enroll in two-year master’s degree programs in the disciplines. MSA Connection: With Dr. Monica Hooper!

Dr. Monica Hooper is an Associate Professor of Psychology, member Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and is the Associate Master in Mahoney Residential College. Dr. Hooper’s research interests include cancer prevention and control with a focus on risk behaviors and minority health/health disparities.

She is from Miami Lakes, Florida and earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Miami, a Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Florida. ;LIR EWOIH XS KMZI WXYHIRXW SRI TMIGI SJ EHZMGI (V ,SSTIV WXEXIH ±=SYV GSPPIKI ]IEVW EVI WSQI SJ XLI FIWX ]SY [MPP IZIV have. Use them wisely. Take time to get to know yourself, work hard, exert your talents, distinguish yourself, and enjoy it!” Dr. Hooper has two favorite quotes by Barack Obama, which are (1) “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.
