NT LIVE: THIS HOUSE encore screening A new play by James Graham It’s 1974 and the corridors of Westminster ring with the sound of infighting and backbiting as Britain’s political parties battle to change the future of the nation, whatever it takes. In this hung parliament, the ruling party holds on by a thread. Votes are won and lost by one, fist fights erupt in the bars, and ill MPs are hauled in to cast their votes.

It’s a time when a staggering number of politicians die, and age-old traditions and allegiances are thrown aside in the struggle for power. James Graham’s biting, energetic and critically-acclaimed new play strips politics down to the practical realities of those behind the scenes who roll up their sleeves, and on occasion bend the rules, to manoeuvre a diverse and conflicting chorus of MPs within the Mother of all Parliaments.

We believe you will enjoy the humorous cut and thrust of these Pirates’ attempts to woo the bevy of the local Major General’s many attractive daughters and appreciate 14

the fast developing love story of the apprentice Frederic and the beautiful Mabel, which is unexpectedly blocked by “a most ingenious paradox!” However, once the local constabulary turns the tables on the criminal Pirates, everything comes good in the end. We have assembled a large, wellcostumed chorus together with a splendid cast of principals, supported by a full orchestra; we are confident that you will be well entertained. Kindly sponsored by

NT LIVE: THE AUDIENCE encore screening

Helen Mirren reprises her Academy Award-winning role as Queen Elizabeth II in the highlyanticipated West End production of The Audience, broadcast as part of National Theatre Live. For 60 years Elizabeth II has met each of her twelve Prime Ministers in a weekly audience at Buckingham Palace – a meeting like no other in British public life – it is private. Both parties have an unspoken agreement never to repeat what is said. Not even to their spouses. The Audience breaks this contract of silence – and imagines a series of pivotal meetings between the Downing Street incumbents and their Queen. From Churchill to Cameron, each Prime Minister has used these private conversations as a sounding board and a confessional – sometimes intimate, sometimes explosive. Directed by Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot), The Audience reunites writer Peter Morgan and Helen Mirren following their collaboration on the critically-acclaimed movie sensation The Queen.

On 20th December 2012 Jerseyborn Marilyn Brown lost her fight with Cancer - an all too common occurrence which seems to affect more and more people these days. Marilyn was a mother to three musical sons; Lee, Luke and Adam, and a photographer daughter, Rani; all of whom have decided to honour the life of their beloved mother by organising a gala concert and, in doing so, raise money for various cancer charities including Jersey Hospice Care where Marilyn spent her final days.

The concert will feature some of the island’s finest musical talents in a range of musical genres from classical to Big Band. The show will also include some very special guest musicians from the UK. British Jazz Singer Clare Teal will compere the evening and perform with the ‘Op Daffodil All Star Big Band’. Please come along and spread the word about this one-off event.
