BIOGRAPHY My major is Certificate of Achievement Digital Arts. I wanna get a job as a Junior Designer in So-cal probably around 2 year later, and eventually wanna be an Art Director in the near future. If there is any chance to run my own business or studio, I would love to. Before we start the portfolio in earnest, I am attaching another portfolio. (Link) I hope you enjoy it together.

PORTFOLIO - Watercolor Portrait I thought it would be appropriate to choose a picture with a lot of whitespace in the object among the two photos to express the watercolor effect, so I chose a picture with a wide side of my face. For the watercolor effect, I have viewed and applied the given tutorial. For the brush, I used Kyle’s Ultimate Pastel Palooza. In the case of colors, I used purple, navy, pink, and green to arrange complementary colors. It is said that the structure of the brain resembles the universe surprisingly. The brain is figuratively described as an unknown universe, and an important part that science has not identified is our brain. So, the complex layout of colors that resemble the universe was placed at the head. The signature and motto were resized. The locations for text were considered overall balance and hierarchy. Since it’s a file for printing, I modified the color with CMYK at the end.

PORTFOLIO - My Motto Poster1 Esse, non videri is a Latin phrase meaning “To be, not to be seen.” It and variants have been used as a motto by a number of different groups. The form is the Wallenberg family motto. Rather than focus on doing, I’m trying to focus on being myself and enlightening myself little by little. The font that I used for my Motto is one of the representative modern fonts, Didot(Italic). Didot is a serif typeface characterized by fine serifs and a strong contrast between very black and imposing solids and extremely delicate strokes. This contrast gives it elegance, refinement as well as a strong readability. It is described as neoclassical, and evocative of the Age of Enlightenment. The Didot family were among the first to set up a printing press in the newly independent Greece, and typefaces in the style of Didot have remained popular in Greece since. The effects that I used for this assignment are Layer Mask, Lens Correction, and gradient overlay with Soft light effects. First of all, I added a layer mask to the photo layer. Then, I pour the background color(extracted from the photo’s background) with a paint bucket tool on the underlayer. And then, imported the scrawl texture image to add some hand-craft vibe to the background, gradient overlayed with soft light effects. Arranged the quotes with the consideration of focal point around an eye level. And transformed the Monogram(Min J Kim) with the perspective warp tool, blending well with the collar. At last, applied the effect ‘Filter- Lens correction- custom- vignette(darken)’ to make the corner of the picture look slightly dark.

PORTFOLIO - My Motto Poster2 In the second photo, the scrawled texture is clipping masked on the quote and rectangle shape. The motto, Duncha, is a quote that refers to a sense of seeming foolish without standing out. Duncha is second place than first place, paradox. In our society today, “Being first” is prevalent. Those who are not satisfied if they win first place have no choice but to live their entire lives unhappy in discontent. In addition, even if one wins first place, your satisfaction is only short, and from that very moment, one suffers from endless challenges. In comparison, second place is wealth even receiving fewer of these things. But second place is never easy either. One has to make efforts comparable to the first place. Therefore, “Be second place” does not mean “to make moderate efforts,” but “to be satisfied even if one doesn’t get first place.” This is in line with the principle of appropriate satisfaction. When one is satisfied and humble oneself, one will be considerate of others and one will be able to live together. Overall I’m glad that I could learn the functions of masks, and resolutions and review my mantras!

PORTFOLIO - My Vector Portrait This is my vectorized portrait. I did image tracing and adjusted threshold. Lastly, I organized the line using an eraser and pen tool. What was interesting about the work was that even if I utilized one color and simplified the form as much as possible, still noticed the original if the representative features are alive.
