Family Matters National Bullying Prevention Month October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Bullying is a trending topic that has everyone talking. Bullying, however, is not a new issue. It is a sickness that has existed since the world began and has increasingly spread as new technology becomes available. However, while I am happy about the newfound awareness and enthusiasm to stop bullying, I am concerned that we may simply be medicating the symptoms.

There are 3 main types of bullying activity: 1. Physical - the most commonly known form includes hitting, kicking, spitting, pushing, and taking personal belongings. 2. Verbal - includes taunting, malicious teasing, name-calling, and making threats. 3. Psychological - involves spreading rumors and hurtful, threatening messages or images, manipulating social relationships, and engaging in social exclusion, extortion, or intimidation. Kids, teens, and adults today use the Internet, cell phones, and related technologies to harm other people, in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner. This involves the verbal and psychological type of bullying known as Cyberbullying. My motto is “the Virtual World is just like the Real World…MAGNIFIED.” School ends about 3 p.m., but the Internet and mobile worlds are accessible 24/7 all year-round, providing no escape for victims. The use of technology

also provides bullies channels with extensive reach. The statistics are alarming and the effects are devastating. Bulling, in all forms, is a harmful practice to all involved: the bully, the victim, and the witnesses or bystanders. What we do at home to “train a child in the way s/he should go” will determine the role they will play in social settings. God has given us commandments, along with the rule, to “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” (Deuteronomy 6:7-9) 7 Ways To Prevent And Stop Bullying In All Its Forms 1. Teach your children the Golden Rule: “Do to others what you would like to be done to you.” (Matthew 7:12) 2. Teach your children to be assertive. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity.” (2 Timothy 1:7) We can defend our rights without infringing on the rights of others. 3. Teach your children that “When pride comes, then comes disgrace.” (Proverbs 11:2) 4. Teach your children to “Welcome one another as Christ has welcomed” us. (Romans 15:7) 5. Teach your children that “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” (1 Corinthians 13:4) 6. Pray for, and with, your children. 7. Use the scriptures as guidelines to protect, discipline, and guide your children. Besides establishing what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior, our role as parents demands that we teach by example. Bullying is a vicious cycle and many of us have been bullies, victims and bystanders; some continue to be so today. Sometimes our actions are so loud that our children can’t hear our words. This October, vow to end bullying by standing up for what is right and training up your children to do the same. —Elayna Fernandez Elayna Fernandez is a proud mom, a bestselling author, international keynote speaker, award-winning Guerrilla Positioning Strategist, and spokesperson for The Positive Mom Foundation. Parenting With Purpose Straight Talk with Your Tween As the parent of a tween, do you find yourself saying things like, “It wasn’t like this when I was this age?” You’re not alone. The Unilever Tween Confidence Index, a survey that provides a snapshot of confidence levels among tween girls and boys, found that 77 percent of moms say their 8- to 12-year-olds are facing more challenges today than they did when they were that age. What are moms concerned about? ● ● ● ● ●

Being overly exposed to sex and violence (86 percent) Facing more pressure to grow up faster (75 percent) Not doing well in school (60 percent) Being challenged to eat healthy (55 percent) Not safely using the internet (55 percent)

Tweens themselves find plenty to stress over. According to the survey, tweens are most stressed about: ● ● ● ●

Hearing rumors about themselves or friends (68 percent) Dealing with hard teachers (68 percent) Getting good grades (61 percent) Their first kiss (51 percent)

Fortunately for you, a majority of tweens (69 percent) find talking with their parents to be “very helpful” in dealing with the pressures and challenges they face. “Communication is a critical part of helping tweens make the transition into being confident teens,” said Rosalind Wiseman, an internationally recognized educator and author of New York Times Best Seller, Queen Bees and Wannabes. “When you keep the lines of communication open, you can help build your child’s confidence and self-esteem.” Wiseman has some tips to help you talk to your tween about what they’re going through: Location, Location, Location – Chances are, puberty and personal hygiene are embarrassing topics for your tween. Lighten the mood by chatting in a comfortable setting for your child, like when you’re walking the dog or taking out the trash.

No Greeting Card Needed – While it may be emotional for you as the parent, try to keep the tone easy and relaxed, because your teen can sense your anxiety and is probably not feeling too comfortable either. Remember the moment when you were their age? It’s typically not the most comfortable conversation. Be prepared to have the chat and then move on to other topics after you’ve said your piece. Ease in, Ease Out – Feel free to have the conversation in mini talks over a period of time. Maybe it’s when you’re together bringing the groceries in from the car or as you’re making dinner. The more natural, subtle, and informal, the better. Surprise Delivery – The best way to introduce an otherwise awkward product to your tween? Make it a quiet surprise. For example drop a stick of Degree deodorant in their bathroom. Once they’ve had a chance to use it, check in a few days later asking how it is working for them. If your tween is extra bashful, leave personal products on their bed in a discrete bag. Nervousness to Nerves of Steel – The goal is to stay calm, cool, and collected to help turn an embarrassing, sometimes difficult, moment into something empowering. Remember how you felt when you were their age, and do your best to relate to what they’re going through. Kids Korner Coaching Kids to Better Choices If decisions are tough for adults, who have years of experience, education and hopefully watched good role models, what must it be like for your children? According to American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (www. aacap.org), scientists have found a region of the brain called the amygdala, which is responsible for instinctual reactions including fear and aggressive behavior. This region develops early. However, the frontal cortex, the area of the brain that controls reasoning and helps us think before we act, develops later. This part of the brain is still changing and maturing well into adulthood. Now don’t get up from reading this article and say to your child, “See, it’s in black and white; you aren’t ready to make good decisions.” If you do, you will have a rebellious spirit to deal with. Remember when you thought you knew everything? Children learn the process of making good decisions through coaching, and you are their ultimate life coach. How about we start with some of the qualities of an exceptional life coach? ● First, you have to be someone they highly respect; they have to trust

your opinion. You need to model what you teach.

● A good coach is transparent. When he makes mistakes, he admits them.

When she makes mistakes, she knows the mistake is not who she is, but only an opportunity for growth and correction. ● A coach is the greatest cheerleader. The best coaches help you to believe you can accomplish anything. Now that you know what an exceptional coach is, how do you coach your kids into making good decisions? It is easier for things to be caught than taught; model good decision making. Find teachable moments. Walk them through easy decisions, giving options and discussing outcomes, then let them decide. Games are another great way to teach decision-making; take time to play games with your kids. Learning can’t always be drudgery, sometimes it has to be fun. Try to stay away from comparing and pointing out those who have made bad decisions—you don’t want your kids to judge others. When using examples don’t point out people, and if you do, stop and pray for them as we all make some bad choices. —Dawn Magee Dawn is the founder of Rising Oaks Ministry and is a certified family & teen Coach. Special Feature Halloween

Beyond the Candy Kids and adults alike look forward to Halloween each year. From the costumes, to the sweet treats, there’s plenty to get excited about. But Halloween also provides the perfect opportunity for kids to get involved in the community as well. Use these tips to help your child think of the holiday as yet another way to spread a festive spirit, with less emphasis on candy, and more emphasis on giving back. Collect donations for a cause. If your kids plan to trick-or-treat, talk to them about collecting coins for an organization that helps children in need throughout the world. For 62 years, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has encouraged kids to help raise funds for their peers in developing countries by going door-to-door on Halloween night or participating in other festive fundraising activities. “Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is a powerful way for parents to teach their children the value of helping others and for kids to learn about the world,” said Caryl Stern, President and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. For the first time, the traditional Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF box has been given a new look, with 6 spooky new character boxes—a monster, black cat, princess, pumpkin, vampire, and witch. Fundraising kits containing the character boxes may be ordered online with free shipping at www.trickortreatforunicef. org or by calling 1-800-FOR-KIDS while supplies last. Get crafty with the kids. Encourage your child to use their creative talents to help spread the Halloween spirit by designing their own Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF box. “This year, we want to tap into children’s imaginations by letting them bring their own creativity to the traditional Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes,” said Stern. The “Create-a-Character” contest allows kids to submit their Halloween character design for a chance to be selected for the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF 2013 limited edition collection. Make it a group activity—encourage your child’s scout troop to participate, or help your child organize a party for neighborhood kids to spend an afternoon designing characters. Then enter their designs online before October 26, 2012 at www.trickortreatforunicef.org. Fundraising kits containing a blank collection box for design may be ordered online with free shipping or by calling 1-800-FOR-KIDS while supplies last. This year Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has partnered with national sponsors Key Club International and MediaVest and promotional supporters American Airlines and Coinstar, Inc. Share some spooky treats. Most kids love to get involved in the kitchen—especially when sweet treats are involved. This year whip up a batch of spooky treats together to share with neighbors, teachers, patients at the local hospital, and residents at your nearest retirement home. Donate old costumes. Your kids grow quickly, so it’s unlikely they’ll be able to wear the same Halloween costume 2 years in a row. Discuss with your child the needs of other children their age and give them the opportunity to donate their gently used Halloween costumes and clothing. Be sure to explain to your children how their costumes can help make another child’s Halloween extra special, and make sure they’re involved in the donation process. Host a Halloween slumber party. Encourage your child to invite their closest friends for a night of spooktacular fun and treats. Ask each child to bring a canned good to the party to donate to your local food kitchen. With a little planning and creativity, you can use the excitement of Halloween to encourage your child to give back to their community as well.

Teen Talk What do you, light, and salt all have in common? You were all created to make a difference. Salt makes food better and keeps food from rotting. Light vanquishes darkness. You are supposed to do the same, accept on a spiritual level. Let’s take a quick look at salt, light, and you. Put salt on a nice steak and it comes alive. The flavor becomes so much more intense. It improves and changes food for the better. Salt, especially during the time of the Bible, was also used to preserve food. It has the ability to stop food from decaying. Do you see why Jesus would tell the believers that they were the salt of the earth? We should be making a positive change in peoples’ lives, enriching them, making them better, and preventing moral decay. Then he also tells them if salt loses its saltiness it becomes useless. Have you ever allowed this to happen to you? Where there is nothing “salty” about your life, you just blend into the crowd, and don’t do anything to bring about a positive change in others. You are the salt of the earth! You were created by God to make a difference! Now take a look at light. What a difference it makes! And what a difference the “Light of the World” makes in our lives. If you have been saved by Christ, sins forgiven, on your way to heaven, a child of God, and now a new-creation, then let your light shine! Don’t hide it, but shine let others see, and hear about, Christ in your life!

For more than 133 years, Buckner International has been transforming lives through hands-on ministry, serving the most vulnerable from the begining to end of life.

Schools can be some of the darkest places on earth. I’m not talking about a lack of light bulbs, but a spiritual darkness. Invade the darkness by being a great example, and most importantly telling people about Christ. Share with them the good news of the gospel, that by trusting in Jesus they can be saved from the penalty of their sins. Don’t be afraid to shine, be as bright as possible! “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matt 5:13-16).

If your answer was “No” to any of the questions, then stop and pray that you will be a brighter, saltier Christian starting today! Go make a difference! —Trey Talley

Now compare yourself to the salt and light analogy Jesus uses: 1. Are you enriching the lives of everyone you are in contact with? 2. Are you acting like to prevent the decay of the people around you? 3. Are you setting a high moral standard for your life, and encouraging others to do the same? 4. What about the light of Christ that should be bright in your heart, life, and speech? 5. Is your light shining, or are you keeping it hidden?

if I have kids they’re always going to know that nothings more important than them - not my job, not fame, or whatever else. I’m hugely invested in my kids. I love hanging out with my girls!”

You might be a Redneck if… you know who Jeff Foxworthy is!

God Moments “You’re almost hesitant to share them with people, you don’t want them to go, ‘Ah, he’s nuts, he’s crazy.’ But, there’s this homeless guy that shows up from time to time a couple of miles from where I live. Everybody’s kinda walking by him and I pulled my car over and parked and I walked back and I thought, ‘This guy’s got a life.’ I sat down and started to listen to his story, not just give him money. I thought, ‘This guy has a story and I want to hear it.’ As we’re sitting there on the curb together, there was a moment when he turned and looked at me and it was like his eyes just flashed for a second. It was almost like God going, ‘You want to see me? Boom! That’s what I look like, this is me, that’s all you can stand and I’m going to show you this because you’re taking the time to sit with someone that every body else is walking past.’ I think most of us have God moments but aren’t courageous enough to share them.”

Known for his famous, “You might be Redneck…” jokes, Jeff Foxworthy is one of the most respected and successful comedians in the country. He is the largest-selling comedy recording artist in history, a multiple Grammy® Award nominee and bestselling author of 11 books. Jeff is more recently known for his role as the host of Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?. More importantly, Jeff Foxworthy is a devout Christian, providing a positive influence in the world of entertainment. Jeff Foxworthy is much more than a professional funny-guy, he’s become an innovator in the entertainment business, specifically, familyfocused programs. His most recent production, The American Bible Challenge, is an exciting game show based on Biblical facts and history.

The American Bible Challenge

Georgian Roots

Jeff serves as both host and producer of The American Bible Challenge (TABC), through which teams come together to win money for the charity of their choice. Based on Bible facts and history, TABC is an exciting, educational, and encouraging must-see program!

Born and raised in Georgia, Foxworthy sprung from rocky, yet solid, family roots. His father, an executive at IBM, and his mother, a strong Christian woman, raised him well. He enjoyed hunting on his father’s middle-Georgian farm land and attending church with his mother. Jeff was blessed with an amazing mother that influenced his journey to Christ at a young age. “There was no debate about it; you were going to go to church on Sunday. But (her influence in my life) is more about how she lived her life.” His parents divorced while he was young, instilling passion for family and his future role as a father. Jeff went on to attend Georgia Tech in Atlanta but left just prior to gradating. Alternatively, he followed in his father’s footsteps at IBM, where he worked for five years in mainframe computer maintenance. In 1984 it was his IBM co-workers that would urge him to enter the Great Southeastern Laugh-off, at Atlanta’s Punchline comedy club. His comedy talent was discovered and his win launched what has become an incredible career in entertainment. However, the Laugh-off wasn’t the only thing Foxworthy won. Jeff met his wife, Pamela; they married in 1985 and had two beautiful daughters.

“It’s just cool seeing people come and, within the course of an hour, win money to help change someone else’s life. Bob Briner defined a vision

when he wrote the book Roaring Lambs. “It’s time for believers to confidently carry their faith with them into the marketplace so that our very culture feels the difference,” he said. His book challenged Christians to share their faith and served as a catalyst for future ministry. Taken from the title of Briner’s book, Roaring Lambs Ministries exists to help ordinary men and women amply their faith by living a life filled with gentleness and roaring with God’s truth. Each year the ministry highlights influential men and women who have made a significant contribution to their community and their workplaces. Since 1999, Roaring Lambs has honored those whose lives demonstrate the gentle character and courageous faith that proclaims God’s truth in their sphere of influence.

The 2012 Roaring Lambs Hall of Fame Honorees: Roger Staubach and Mark Schupbach Few people embody the mission of Roaring Lambs like the 2012 Hall of Fame Honorees, Roger Staubach and Mark Schupbach. Both men exemplify the spirit of encouraging, equipping, challenging, and empowering Christians to share their faith. And you can hardly do business in the Dallas/Fort Worth area without knowing these men’s names. Roger Staubach has long been a household icon known for his contribution to the Dallas Cowboys. Chick Chat BFF’s – Part 2 Cultivating godly relationships with other women that glorify Him. Friendships are an amazing, God-given gift. Friends bless our lives, challenge us to improve spiritually, physically, mentally, and encourage our growth. Friends give us secret family recipes and honest feedback on our too-little Little Black Dress or our need for confining girdle-like undergarments (underneath our too-little Little Black Dress). Friends can show us examples of God’s love through meals and babysitting. What a blessing! However, friendship can also be trying. Hurt feelings, overly-sensitive remarks, and gossip can cloud our relationships. Trying too hard or not trying at all creates rocky ground for the seeds of friendship. High school-type drama weighs in on compadres, doubt and self-worth increase, and sad hearts are the result. Be intentional about friendships; don’t just call or text when it is convenient. Be intentional; be a friend who seeks out the one who needs a friend. Here are some ways we can be intentional in our efforts to create godly friendships that glorify Him. ● Pray – Ask God to show you women that need your friendship and pay attention to who He places in your path. ● Initiate – Be the first to walk up to the “new girl;” smile, introduce yourself, and listen to her. ● Pursue – Invite her to lunch or a play date with the kids. Include her in Pokeno or Bunco. Ask her family over for a barbecue or takeout. ● Contact – Send a quick text while waiting in the carpool line or at the doctor’s office. Even better, call her. It takes planning so she doesn’t hear the organized chaos of 4 screaming banshees in the background, but it will be worth it.

● Transparent – Be a transparent, honest, and sincere person. Let her

know the real you so she will be comfortable being the real her. No one has it all together. If we had it all together we wouldn’t need Jesus. Be real. Speak life – Guard your tongue against foulness and dirty talk. Make a break from backbiting, gossip, and cattiness. Be gentle and sensitive. Say only words that help and encourage. Merciful – Give your friend the benefit of the doubt. Forgive one another quickly and don’t harbor anger or bitterness. Love her where she is today and not where you think she ought to be. Pray – Pray for your friend in your quiet time with the Lord. And pray for her while with her. It is such a gift when a bestie says, “Let me pray for you right now.” Even at the park or in Starbucks, go to the Lord on her behalf. Serve – Serve her in times of need with a meal, babysitting, or impromptu house cleaning. Better yet, serve with her. Your relationship can deepen and lengthen while focusing on glorifying Him.

God has given us the gift of friendship. Let’s be purposeful about seeking those He has placed in our lives thereby glorifying Him. Our efforts to connect with other women could result in a lifelong companionship of growing in and serving Him. Besides, who doesn’t need an earthly BFF? —Niki Carbajal Niki is a wife and mother of five, blogs about life’s drama at Plantedontherock. com. Health & Wellness Five Ways to Find Your Fitness Motivation Even the most dedicated exercise enthusiast can hit a workout rut, but there are a few ways you can stay motivated, whether it’s adding a new class into your routine or ensuring you’re outfitted in the right gear. Read on for the latest trends in staying on track: 1. Set goals, track progress – One of the best ways to stay motivated is to set goals, track progress, and share results. A great way to keep your goals and successes top of mind is keeping a visual chart on your fridge or bedroom wall. Not only will you feel accomplished when you check off the days you worked out, but it is also an easy way to track your progress and celebrate milestones. 2. Add variety – One reason people tend to quit an exercise program is boredom, so make sure you are challenging yourself. A great way to do so is mixing up your routine with the latest fitness workouts like TRX Suspension Training or Crossfit. Not only does a varied workout regimen prevent boredom, it also ensures you’re working different muscles and areas of your body. And speaking of mixing it up, downloading a new playlist can give you the right heart-thumping boost to keep your energy levels up. 3. Buddy up – Another way to combat boredom is working out with a friend. Scheduling a workout in advance ensures you’re more likely to stick to your fitness commitments. As the old adage says, time passes much more quickly when you’re having fun. 4. Get the right gear – Whether you’re a seasoned fitness pro, or you’re just starting a new regimen, it’s important to sport the right apparel to keep you looking and feeling your best. For women, this means finding the perfect the sports bra. “There really is no getting around it,” states LaJean Lawson, Ph.D. and Champion’s sports bra expert. “Having the right sports bra is key to fitness success! Make sure that you have a style that both fits properly and is appropriate for your activity level – you’re not going to get a good workout if you aren’t comfortable.” 5. Reward yourself – It’s important to reward yourself when you reach milestones – both big and small. In fact, if you set only major goals, you’re more likely to get frustrated and quit before you make much progress. Instead, set small, achievable goals for specific time parameters, as well as an overall goal. Don’t let setbacks get you down, and make sure you celebrate each time you reach a new level with something special, such as an ice cream cone, trip to the movies, or a massage. —Champion Sports Apparel

Ministry Spotlight The Gospel Going Out: Word on Wheels Ministry “Please bring the gospel through a Bible study to my fellow residents.” In 2001, Margaret Buckingham, a resident of The Park, a healthcare facility in Plano, Texas, made this heartfelt request to two of her friends, Gerry Moore and Jean Bowie. Inspired by Margaret’s winsome ways, love for the Lord, and heartfelt concern for those who, like her, were confined to a nursing home or residential care facility, Gerry and Jean began to pray. Within a month they were gathering materials and launching their first study. It wasn’t long before others felt compelled to join. Janet Kinder also caught the vision for a Bible study. She wholeheartedly joined Gerry and Jean in their efforts, and Word on Wheels (W.O.W.), subsequently became an outreach of Roaring Lambs Ministries. “We take so much for granted—church attendance, Christian fellowship, and even holding the Bible in our hands,” Gerry explains. When people can no longer get around as they once did and find themselves in a more restricted environment, a Bible study becomes the highlight of their week. As a result W.O.W. has witnessed many residents come to know the Lord through their studies. Margaret Buckingham’s own background puts this ministry in perspective. A graduate of Cornell University, she attended the University of Texas, received her law degree from Southern Methodist University, and served as a WAC in World War II. She later married and was widowed, raised three children and worked for Child Protective Services. Margaret loved God’s Word and felt compelled to meet the spiritual needs of her fellow residents. Her vision for Bible study was contagious.

Although Margaret went home to be with the Lord in 2006, Gerry, Jean, and Janet have since continued and expanded the mission of W.O.W. seeking to glorify God by reaching men and women in healthcare facilities. Gerry says, “Participating in this ministry is not a duty; it is a privilege.” And Roaring Lambs’ women like Carol Hausler and Helen Harrell agree with her statement. They also realize that hand clasps and appreciative hugs are an important part of W.O.W. that bless both the teachers and the residents. The mission of Word on Wheels is “to facilitate the bringing of God’s Word to Senior Living Communities through teaching a Bible Study, visiting and praying with residents on a weekly basis.” People across the country are discovering the impact of healthcare facility outreach. They’re realizing the reward of Jesus’ words, “In as far as you did it to one of the least of these… you did it to me” (Matthew 25:40, The Amplified Bible). If you’d like to know more about W.O.W. and how you can serve a local healthcare residence, visit the Roaring Lambs website at www.roaringlambsministries.org. —Amanda DeWitt Amanda is the Assistant Editor for Dallas Family Magazine. Testimony Time When Life is Hard From Pain to Praise…

We live in a fallen world and lousy things happen, but we’re citizens of His kingdom. So when we suffer from the afflictions of this fallen world, we’re not alone. Whatever the trial, pain, or hardship, He is right there with us. He does not, and will not, forsake us—ever. When our hope is in Jesus, we know that peace of being in His care. When our mind is focused on Him, He gives us that peace that passes understanding, His perfect peace. When that peace slips away, we must get back to Him and get focused. Remember that our trust and care are in His hands. “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is staid on you.”—Isaiah 26:3 My life has been a series of circumstances that have been anything but “normal.” My body continues to betray me time and time again. I’ve had very few and all too brief periods of “normalcy,” and then I’m in the middle of something very difficult again. I’ve been healed many times, and many times I’ve been through some pretty horrific things. When I look back at my life, I sure wouldn’t have chosen most of what I’ve experienced, but I wouldn’t trade any of it either. Through it all I’ve drawn closer to God and His word.

stances. “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me…” (Psalm 23:4) I once read a wonderful analogy about being in a thick jungle, getting lost and feeling panicked. A guide shows up who knows the terrain very, very well. He assures you that he knows the way out, no problem, so just trust and stay with him. That’s our Lord; when we feel lost, He knows the way very, very well. Don’t lose sight of Him; He doesn’t lose sight of you! Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. He’s my hope, my joy, my comfort in the storms. I love Him; I’m His child, and He loves me. Because of that I’m anchored. I can be tossed around, but I’m not going anywhere; my hope is in Him, and I’m anchored! —Dianne Swingle In November of 2011 Dianne was miraculously healed of a twenty-five year old affliction, Fibromyalgia. She was in excruciating pain, day and night, and then it was gone. diannemswingle@gmail.com

T3 Time,Talent & Treasure Five Tips for Financial Intimacy Money is the leading cause of marital and relationship troubles. Forty percent of married couples have serious, recurring arguments about money, according to Matt Bell, author of Planning for Fewer Fights with Your Spouse. In a survey by American Express, 27% of respondents said they had lied to their partner about the amount of a purchase, and 30% reported hiding purchases from a partner. Many couples have different values around money and neglect to take the time to hash out issues that can potentially ruin relationships. But you can improve your financial intimacy. Here are five tips: 1. Hold a monthly financial discussion night – Sit down with your partner every month and go over your spending and savings plan. Look at everything you bought during the past month and everything you’re thinking of buying soon, and ask yourselves, “Is this really a need or a want”? Also discuss and update your long-term and short-term financial and savings goals. Ask if the purchases you’re considering will move you closer to your goals. If you have children over age 6 or 7, include them in your monthly family finance night. It’s a great way to prepare your kids to be financially successful and responsible adults. 2. Share responsibility – It’s common today for one partner to play the primary role in managing finances, but both partners should be aware and involved. Make all decisions about major purchases together. 3. Eliminate debt to outside financial institutions – Debt is deadly to many relationships. A top priority should be to reduce and eliminate debt to banks and credit card companies. Make spending decisions consciously. Build an emergency fund that can help you weather life’s emergencies.

4. Have a “Plan B” – What’s your back-up plan if things change? What if one of you loses a job or wants to go back to school? What if one of you gets a job in another part of the country? 5. How to take the first step – There’s no time like the present to start or deepen the money conversation with your partner. A fun, non-threatening way to do this is by taking our Love and Money Financial SelfAssessment. Take this 3-minute survey either separately or together, and compare your money values. Will it be Ted (Sam Page), the kid at heart who sells vintage toys in a digital world, or the imposter, a Hollywood actor hired by the Senior Elf who wants the holiday all to himself? Santa knows that only Annie can make that decision—and that the fate of Christmas rests in her heart. Arrives on DVD on October 9th! Christmas Miracle - A blizzard closes the roads forcing eight strangers to take refuge in an abandoned church. Enchanted by the charms of community, Vera comes to discover a new love in her work and an old love in Jack. Will the diva director drop her defenses long enough to let love in? Mild head injuries often go undetected. Nearly 300,000 sports-related traumatic brain injuries occur each year. Moderate to severe brain injuries are usually obvious. But, damage to

mild head injuries is not visibly apparent on CT or MRI scans.

SPECT Brain Imaging can visualize the brain’s functioning. Help diagnose which part of the brain is affected. Help determine what treatment to use.

“Even though the MRI didn’t show anything, I just knew he had a concussion from the way he’s been acting since his head injury. With the help of the SPECT scan, we can now move forward with treatment and healing. I’m so thankful and relieved.”

Why is the Bible DIFFERENT than the Bhagavad Gita, The Book of Mormon or The Koran? The BIBLE is a RELIABLE COLLECTION of HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. Their REPORT is of SUPERNATURAL EVENTS which took place as FULFILLMENT of SPECIFIC PROPHECIES and declare that their record is divine in nature and not of human origin. 66 Books, written in 3 languages, more than 40 writers on 3 differenct continents over a period of 1500 years - YET the message of Gods plan of redemption is consistent from Genesis to Revelation.
