The golden section The golden section has been used for centuries. The Greeks used the golden section to establish balance in the design of architecture, for example the Parthenon, and it was re-discovered by artists and architects during the Renaissance period. The golden section is constructed through mathematical calculation: the ratio being 1:1.61803. The example below (steps 1 to 4) demonstrates its construction from a simple square.
