It is unusual to have the major annual AUA meeting and a sectional meeting in the same location. However, issues concerning hurricane closures and pandemic cancellations impacted the meeting schedules. Our Department had a good showing, including many presentations by our Jefferson Urology Research Scholars. Our Jefferson Urology research scholars and residents were given primary presenter roles for most of the meeting sessions. This year’s meeting has special significance as Dr. Costas Lallas became the 2022-2023 Mid-Atlantic AUA President. The MidAtlantic section of the American Urologic Association includes Delaware, District of Columbia, Eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland, Southern New Jersey, Virginia and West Virginia.

Dr. Deborah Glassman, Clinical Associate Professor of Urology and a certified yoga teacher, was asked to lead a wellness session at the 2022 Mid-Atlantic AUA. Her session was well attended by the meeting participants, who participated in the physical yoga practice. The session was designed with the hope of improving well-being and minimizing the risk of burn out. Participants were given tools to reduce stress, provide personal insights, and find balance that can be accessed to counteract the challenges of the daily workload. The feedback was so positive that she has been invited to offer the session again at the MA-AUA next year.

Congratulations to our PGY-3 resident, Dr. Maria D’Amico, who was a member of the winning team in the annual Mid Atlantic AUA Resident Bowl in New Orleans on October 13. Maria and the team will represent the MidAtlantic Section at the AUA National Resident Bowl in Chicago in May 2023. Hoping for a second national title for the Mid-Atlantic team after our victory in 2022 (see page 22).

According to Dr. Maria D’Amico, “The Residents Bowl Event was a great way to test our knowledge while working collaboratively with residents from other post graduate years and other programs in our section. I had fun, learned a few facts, and am looking forward to seeing my team again at the National AUA conference next spring.”
