Global Engagement & International Affairs Drs. Hubosky and Ragam at KLE Ureteroscopy Course in India

In our continuing engagement with Jefferson’s India Center, Dr. Scott Hubosky was an invited speaker, or more properly a “Master of the Art” at a ureteroscopy and miniPCNL workshop in Belgaum, India, in December 2022. The Department was pleased to have our PGY-4 resident, Dr. Radhika Ragam, also participate in keeping with the spirit of our Urology training exchange program with Jefferson’s India Center as supported by Dr. Richard Derman. The program was held on December 10 and 11, 2022, at KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital Medical Center in Belgaum.

Drs. Hubosky and Ragam were invited by Dr. R. B. Nerli, Professor and Head of Urology at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital Medical College in Belgaum. They joined Dr. Janek Desai of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, as primary faculty for a Master Class.

center was developed in collaboration with KLE University, an institution spanning a history of more than 100 years and ranked among the top of India’s universities. The Jefferson India Center collaboration also includes the Wills Eye Hospital working with the LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad. The Department of Urology has an ongoing research program with collaborations between Dr. Nerli and Drs. Leonard Gomella and Mat Thakur.

This CME international urology course was a hands-on workshop held at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College & KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital on December 10-11, 2022. Featured lectures by Dr. Hubosky were on ureteroscopic treatment of nephrolithiasis, as well as ureteroscopic treatment of upper tract urothelial carcinoma, while Dr. Ragam provided a lecture on the ureteroscopic treatment of nephrolithiasis during pregnancy. The workshop included multiple live ureteroscopic surgeries performed by Dr. Hubosky, who was assisted by Dr. Ragam and the chief urology residents of JNMC in Belagavi, India. The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College urology residents also received complimentary copies of Dr. Hubosky’s recent textbook, Advanced Ureteroscopy.
