Jefferson India Center Urology Exchange Programs

Drs. Shreyas Rai and Ronak Shah, urology residents from KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and MRC, Belgaum, India, spent several months at Jefferson observing our clinical care and participating in our educational programs. Their program director, Dr. Rajendra Nerli, Urology Chief at Dr. Prabhakar Kore hospital, joined them at Jefferson near the end of their rotation. Our Jefferson India Center is based in Belgaum, India, with Dr. Nerli and his team collaborating on a variety of research and educational projects. Dr. Nerli looks forward to expanding the program by increasing the residents exchange with Jefferson urology residents in the future.

Visiting Belgaum, India, Urology residents Shreyas Rai and Ronak Shah had the opportunity to observe in the operating room and train on our TUR simulator in the Hamilton Building. Above, they are being shown how the training system works by Chief Resident Ben Rudnick under the watchful eye of their Chief of Urology at KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital, Dr. Rajendra Nerli.

In addition to the rotating residents educational experience, the trip concluded with a tour of Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley major sites. Dr. Nerli was presented with a special Jefferson photo by photographer Robert Neroni as a symbol of our Department’s connection between Philadelphia and Belgaum, India. Dr. Richard Derman, Jefferson’s Director, Global Health Research and Professor, Obstetrics & Gynecology, has promoted the interactions between our department and the Jefferson India center. According to Dr. Derman,“I am engaged in preliminary discussions to develop ongoing Drs. Shreyas Rai and Ronak Shah and Rajendra Nerli were guests of Drs. Mat Thakur and Tricia and Leonard Gomella this past spring.
