I am writing to you because you are a father. As a father you play a unique and important role in your child’s life. Father’s parent differently than mother’s do.

Repeated studies have shown that children with fathers have fewer behavior problems, obtain better academic results, and are economically better off.

Parenting classes are fine, but they don’t usually give much attention to the difference in how fathers and mothers parent. There is a new group/class starting in September just for fathers and it is here on Whidbey Island.

I am attaching a flyer about this group and encourage you to check it out. I want to emphasize that this class is voluntary. It is not a state program and they do not report to us. I am sending this to you because being a father is the hardest and most important job you will ever have. But it is one most men enter into with very little understanding and without the tools to do the job. This class could be a good opportunity to gain some of those tools.
