2013 Recipients This award is given by the DADS Committee of Spokane to individuals who have demonstrated leadership and dedication to the cause ofpromoting positive male involvement in the lives of children in the Spokane community.

Katie Roley Katie began working with the Parent-Child Assistance Program (PCAP) in 2008. PCAP is a home visitation intervention program that works with women and children. In this role, Katie made a point of working with the entire family whenever possible, making certain to include fathers and to connect them with resources in the community. Katie attended her first DADS committee meeting while training at PCAP and was "hooked." Katie quickly became an instrumental part ofthe DADS committee, taking notes, making contacts and working hard to keep the group on track. It's doubtful that the Conference you are attending today would be going as smoothly if not for the trail blazed by Katie during her time on the DADS Committee.

Thomas Schmidt Tom is a longtime counselor, educator, activist and advocate in the Spokane community. Tom worked with men and fathers individually and in group settings, such as the "Men and Anger" groups he facilitated at St. Joseph Family Center. As one of the original members ofthe DADS Committee, Tom has worked to assure men of their importance in the lives of children. On the Committee, Tom was known for his scholarly nature and ability to document and research the importance of positive male involvement to kids. The work Tom has done has contributed greatly to fostering a more "fatherfriendly" attitude amongst professionals in Spokane.

Dan Wolfley One of the cofounders of the Developing Advocacy for Dads (DADS) Committee, Dan Wolfley made a career of encouraging positive male involvement in the lives of children. While at the Spokane Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) Prevention Center in the 1990s, Dan brought the Nurturing Fathers program to the area, becoming one of its first and most prolific facilitators. Despite retiring in 2008, Dan remains the face of the fatherhood movement in Spokane for many and is a mentor to several of the current members of the Committee. This conference- and perhaps the DADS Committee itself- might not exist without the effort and vision put forth by Dan.
