DIXIELAND DELIGHT

It’s a beautiful April morning here on scenic Lookout Mountain, and I’m a very grateful man to be writing an invitation to our 35th anniversary sale. Lots of great memories and great people are Randy and Kelly Owen part of our successful years in the purebred livestock business. We’ve been able, because of our wonderful customers, to survive and flourish for all of these years. I’m looking forward to meeting everybody and hopefully getting to say “hello” to old friends and new friends. I care more deeply about my family and our cattle breeding than I ever have; what a wonderful experience this has been. I look forward to growing old with our grandkids, our children and our cattle. I want to thank Randa and John for expanding our breeding programs here at Tennessee River Music, Inc. John has been an amazing addition to our family. He works every day like you would hope to see a young cattleman work. Randa somehow manages to have a good balance between two beautiful children, Harper Rose and John Owen, and the everyday work load involved here at the ranch. I’ve often heard it said, nothing worth having is ever easy, and I know that John and Randa would agree. We operate debt free, and with God’s help and the support of our customers, we will continue to breed the best Hereford and Angus cattle we can. By the way, I will be performing Friday night, May 4th, for all of y’all at the barn where we hold the auction. Come have some fun with us, tap your feet, clap your hands, sing along. If you have requests, I’ll do my best to do those songs, or you may want to join in with us on a song or two. is is my way of saying a special “thank you” for all of the years and for all of the wonderful supporters who attend our production sales, and for those customers of Lookout Mountain Genetics, which has become more and more successful through your support. It’s a beautiful time of the year to visit scenic Little River Canyon on Lookout Mountain, so make plans to spend a couple of days, at least, with us here in Northeast Alabama. anks to Roland and Janet Starnes (John’s parents) and Tyler Owen at the farm, who work with the cow herd and do such a wonderful job—I’m very proud of them. anks to Stephanie and Jess at Lookout Mountain Genetics. Some really nice Hereford and Angus genetics will be offered and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone May 4th and 5th, 2018. On behalf of me and Kelly, thanks for everything,

since 1981

DIXIELAND DELIGHT 35 RED, WHITE & BLACK ANGUS & HEREFORD PRODUCTION SALE

We are truly honored and humbled to welcome you to our 35th Production Sale. It seems like yesterday we were just preparing for last year’s sale. It’s said that the days are long, but the years are short. Ranch life sure makes that statement ring true as you work sun up till sun down, yet each year’s breeding season and then calf crop seems to come faster and faster. Still, our goal here is to provide high-quality, dependable genetics built with longevity and do ability for their new owner. We feel like these cattle are our best set yet. From the proven donors that sell to the spring calving cows with calves at side, the proof is in these cattle and the job they do. Honesty and integrity are something we take very seriously, and the TRM motto is quite simple. We raise the type and kind of livestock that are stout, sound and FUNCTIONAL and can flat get the work done all while having adequate EPD profiles.

John, Randa, Harper and John Owen Starnes

We are truly blessed to work side by side with our family and loved ones. Living and working with family on our cattle operation is something we don’t take for granted, and we are forever grateful to the good Lord above for the blessing of being able to do what we love. We can’t thank “Da” Roland, cousin Tyler, Nonnie, Poppy and Mimi enough for all they do here at TRM and for us as a family. Our customers mean the world to us, and we realize that without each and every one of you, none of what we do would be possible. We are forever grateful for our past, present and future customers.

Roland and Janet Starnes

Please make plans to join us Friday, May 4th to view the cattle and enjoy fellowship and a good meal at our country social. If you ever need anything or if we could help you in any way, please don’t hesitate to call anyone here at the ranch. We appreciate each one of you and value our friendship more than you could imagine. We are blessed to call TRM customers our friends and colleagues, and we would love the opportunity to work with you. Sincerely,

Tyler Owen

• We selected this powerful female in the Moss dispersal as an open heifer, and she has developed into one of the most visually impressive females on the ranch and in this offering. She combines Revolution with a maternal sister to the Denver Reserve Champion and high selling bull BR CSF Wallace 7055 ET. Her granddam, 8063, has been featured in the Ankony, Star Lake and Cottonwood Springs herds and has been a top producer in all. • Posts an average nursing ratio of 103.7 on 3 head and a YW ratio of 106 on 1 head. • Dam posts an impressive 8@106.6 for REA. • Daughter sells as Lot 15. • Ranks in top 2% for BII, 3% for CW, REA and CHB, 4% for MCE and BMI, 5% for WW, 10% for YW and Marb, 15% for SC and 25% for CED, Uddr and Teat. • Will calve before sale day to BF ASSURANCE 5610 ET.

• We selected 37B from Larsons’ Hereford Alliance Sale, and she has continued to impress us since joining our program; however, in an effort to offer our best, we have reluctantly decided to include her in this year’s sale. • Her dam, W9, originated in the Ochsner female factory and, in the words of Lee Larson, “is without a doubt one of if not the most prolific cow to ever step foot on (Running L) ranch.” W9 was the high selling female in the Hereford Alliance Sale several years ago to Whispering Pine Farms for $25,000 before re-joining the Running L Ranch program when Whispering Pines dispersed their Hereford herd. • Ranks in top 10% for BW, Uddr, BMI and BII, 15% for CED, SCF, CEM and Teat, 20% for SC, Milk and CHB, 25% for CW and REA. • Will calve before sale day to BF ASSURANCE 5610 ET.

• Selling one-half embryo interest. Possession will be retained by Pollard Farms. • Lot 101 is arguably the breed’s most impressive daughter of Bismarck and one of the most popular daughters of 643T. She was our Lot 1 half interest selection from the 2013 Pollard Sale, where we also selected a heifer pregnancy from 0533 for $7,500 that developed into the $56,500 top selling lot in our 2014 Dixieland Delight. 0533 typifies the blend of phenotypic quality, numerical balance and genetic superiority that Pollard Farms and TRM strive to produce. This powerful female is a favorite of all who have seen her. The same body, hip and power that have attributed to her dam’s popularity are instantly recognized in 0533’s flawless phenotype, and she has passed those traits to her progeny. • Most recently, a son by Discovery was the $10,000 2/3 interest selection of Canadian Sires, Olds, AB, in the 2018 Pollard Bull Sale, continuing the consistent demand for 0533’s progeny that is detailed below. • In the 2016 Pollard Bull Sale, four sons of 0533 sold for an impressive average of $7,663 and included the $16,500 third top-selling bull. Two daughters sold in the 2015 Pollard Sale for

28

$10,000 to Crazy K and $9,000 to Luddington Angus. Three sons of 0533 sold in the 2015 Pollard Bull Sale for an impressive average of $12,667 and included the two top selling bulls, both selected by Gene & Larry De Witt, Cherokee OK. In the 2017 Pollard Female Sale, three daughters combined for a $18,667 average and included a flush sister that was the $30,000 selection of Lylester Ranch, LLC. In the 2016 Pollard Female Sale, a daughter of 0533 was the second top-selling female at $63,000 to Deer Valley. • In the 2016 TRM Dixieland Delight, a heifer pregnancy out of 0533 by VAR Discovery 2240 sold to Belle Point Ranch and Little Cedar Cattle Co., and in the 2015 Dixieland Delight, RimRock Productions selected one-half interest in two spring ET Waylon daughters of 0533 for $10,000 each. In the 2015 Denim and Diamonds Sale, a daughter of Lot 101, PF TRM Henrietta Pride 4048, was the $25,000 fourth top-selling open heifer selected by Woodside Farms. One-half interest in two daughters of Lot 101, one of which sells as Lot 102 in this offering, sold to TRM in the 2014 Pollard Sale for $28,000. • A heifer pregnancy from 0533 by Consensus sold in the 2012 Pollard Sale to Darrell Chapman for $12,500, while another sold for $13,500 in the 2014 Dixieland Delight. A full sister to 0533 was the $40,000 selection of Spruce Mountain from the 2011 Pollard Sale, while a full brother to 0533 was the $19,500 second top selling bull in the 2012 National Western Bull Sale to Charles J. Beaman LaSalle, CO. • Lot 101 is still very productive and working excellent in embryo transplant. TRM currently has a large bank of embryos, and we feel it is time to share her genetics and allow someone else to share in this female’s greatness. • 0533 posts progeny ratios of 2@91 for BW, 2@115 for WW, 1@100 for YW, 22@103 for %IMF and 22@101 for REA. • Ranks in top 1% for CED, 4% for RE, 15% for HP and 25% for $F and $B. • Sells open and set up to flush.
