TEAM DALLAS

JCC MACCABI GAMES 2017

TAKING ALABAMA BY STORM

Taking Birmingham By Storm WRITTEN BY ARTIE ALLEN (JCC CEO)

It was the gold medal game for the girls 16 and under soccer team. Team Dallas was playing a formidable foe in Team Atlanta. The first half was as close as ever with each team trying to find a weakness in their opponent. As the half ended, Team Dallas led 1 – 0. Then it happened, the skies opened up, bringing a midday storm that lasted more than an hour. The earth shook, the thunder sounded and the bolts of lightning crashed. When the game resumed, the humidity was oppressive yet Team Dallas took control and charged to a 3 – 1 victory. This game symbolized the entire week for Team Dallas as the delegation took the city by storm. With 104 athletes participating, Team Dallas was ready for a great week of spirit and competition. Yes, Team Dallas came away with many, many medals but more importantly, they came together with hundreds of Jewish teens from around the world, creating friendships that will last a lifetime. Competition is the attraction, Jewish identity is the result.

DALLAS ATHLETES MAKE AN IMPACT MIDOT MEDALS & JCC CARES Midot Medals are awarded to athletes and coaches who embody the spirit of the JCC Maccabi Games. Ten Team Dallas athletes, coaches and delegation heads received one during their time in Birmingham. These individuals exemplify what we know to be true about ALL of our Dallas athletes. Each year during the JCC Maccabi Games all participants pause from competition to give back to the supporting community. This community service project is known as JCC Cares. This year Dallas athletes learned about the Civil Rights movement in Alabama and connected it to Tisha B' Av.
