Alumni Shawn Beyer • Carlos Olivas • Lucas Rodriguez Three former JCCC soccer AllAmericans, Shawn Beyer, Carlos Olivas and Lucas Rodriguez went to play professionally. Beyer played for the Kansas City Attack, Philadelphia Kixx and San Diego Sockers. He was named to the NPSL All-Rookie Team in 1998. Olivas was a first round selection by the Attack in the 1997 NPSL draft. He played three seasons scoring 99 points. Both are members of JCCC’s Hall of Fame. Rodriguez is currently in his third year playing for the Kansas City Comets. in 2010-11, he was named the MISL Rookie of the Year.

Kit Pellow A former All-America baseball player at JCCC and the University of Arkansas, Kit Pellow became the first Cavalier to make to the Major Leagues. Drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 1996, Pellow earned his first call-up in August, 2002. Following the season, Pellow signed a free agent contract with the Colorado Rockies, and in 2004, was the Rockies opening day starter in left field and batted sixth in the line-up against Arizona’s hard-throwing lefthander Randy Johnson.

Jeff Soptic In the 2011 MLB Draft, JCCC pitcher Jeff Soptic was selected by the White Sox in the third roun, making him the highest drafted player in team history. He was also the fourth highest junior college player selected in the country.

Rusty Sowers Rusty Sowers, a former All-Conference performer for the women’s basketball team, caught a touchdown pass to help her team, the Kansas City Tribe, defeat previoiusly unbeaten DC Rivas in the 2009 IWFL World Championship. The Tribe won 21-18. In the conference championship, Sowers accounted for two scores, including a punt return for a touchdown. She was also named to the Western Conference All-Star Team.

Eric Sanchez and Jeremy Ryan Former Alll-America pole vaulters at JCCC, Eric Sanchez and Jeremy Ryan appeared on the Emmy Award-winning reality adventure series The Amazing Race, during the spring 2006 season. The pair nearly won the one million dollar prize, finishing second to BJ and Tyler. The following season, Sanchez and his partern, Danielle Turner, were the first to cross the finish line and win the million dollar prize of the final episode of The Amzing Race-All-Stars. The couple met while racing against each other during Season 9.

Tony Harris JCCC’s all-time scoring leader, Tony Harris is the only Cavalier to see action in the NBA. He saw stints with the Bullets, 76ers and Celtics.
