NJCAA President Joe Tubb, now in his 27th year as Director of Athletics at South Plains College, begins his first year as President of the NJCAA in the fall 2010. Tubb began serving the NJCAA on a national level as the Region 5 Men's Assistant Director in 1997 before taking over as Director in 1999, a position he holds today. Over the years, Tubb has served on numerous committees and has represented the NJCAA throughout the nation. He served on the Cross Country committee for two years before being named co-chair for Track & Field, Cross Country and HalfMarathon and has served as a NJCAA representative to USA Track & Field since 2001. He has been a member of the Men's Division I Golf Committee since 1998, including chair from 1998-2000 and 2004 to the present. From 1999-2005, Tubb sat on the Championship Events Committee. He was also a member of the Division I Baseball Committee for three years. At South Plains College, Tubb has seen numerous athletic teams win regional and national titles, including track, cross country and basketball. He has also been instrumental to the college hosting numerous NJCAA national events, the most recent being the 2008 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship. He was also a leader in implementing the Assistance for Student Athletes Program to assist student-athletes with time management, classroom studies and healthy living choices. A member of the NATYCAA Executive Committee, Tubb was named the NACDA Athletic Director of the Year for 2006.

Mary Ellen Leicht Executive Director

Mary Ellen Leicht is just the third executive director in NJCAA history. Leicht began her career with the NJCAA in the fall of 1989. She is in charge of the National Letter of Intent Program and the NJCAA National Championships. Along with that she oversees the regulation of NJCAA scholarships and is an Eligibility Administrator. Over the past five years she has taken the NJCAA into the computer age with the coordination of the NJCAA website and the new Online Eligibility Program that will launch in the fall of 2004. Leicht received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where she was member of their varsity women's basketball team, lettering all four years. She went on to receive her Master's degree in Sports Administration from the University of New Mexico and spent a year as an intern with the WAC before accepting a position with the NJCAA.

Mark Krug

Director of Media Relations Mark Krug joined the staff in September of 2006 as Assistant to the Exedutive Diredtor. He was elevated to Director of Sports Information and Media Relations on June 1, 2008. His primary responsibilities are maintaining the web site, producing publications and promoting a higher profile of the NJCAA and the many student-athletes that are part of the organization. Krug began his education at Central Christian where he was a two-year letterman on the basseball team, serving as team captain in his sophomore season. He continued at Northern Arizona where he earned his degree in electronic media. He completed his education at Wyoming, earning his master’s degree in communcation in 2004. While at Wyoming, he served as a graduate assistant in the athletic media relations office.

Did You Know? The idea for the NJCAA was conceived in 1937 at Fresno, Calif., and in 1938, the constitution was accepted and the NJCAA became a functioning organization. The initial activity sponsored by the NJCAA was track and field. The NJCAA was fast gaining national recognition, and in 1949, the NJCAA reorganized by dividing the nation into 16 regions. Additionally, Hutchinson, Kan., became the site for the national office and the NJCAA Championship Basketball Tournament. The office remained in Hutchinson until 1985, when the NJCAA moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. Today, the NJCAA membership consists of over 500 institutions and 45,000 student-athletes.
