Strategic Plan Update

What a way to start the day! By Susan Busby, Chair, JBMH Board of Governors

March 8 was the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day and to celebrate this milestone, a group of women Board members and Senior Team leaders from JBMH attended the Honourable Paddy Torsney’s 15th Annual International Women’s Day Breakfast which was held at the Burlington Holiday Inn. The 240 attendees were a blend of professional men and women as well as senior students and their teachers from all of the Burlington High Schools. The Minister of Health and Long Term Care, Deb Matthews, was a special guest who outlined her party’s response to child poverty and education. We were also very pleased that she made a particular point to meet the women from JBMH! But the highlight of the morning was the keynote speaker, Dr. Lynda RedwoodCampbell. Dr. Redwood-Campbell is a resident of Burlington, a family practitioner and Associate Professor at McMaster University where she teaches about Global

Health. She also Chairs the Global Health Committee for the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Her passion for the health and education needs of women and children around the world was highly inspirational. Over the past month, consultation sessions have been held with many of the departments and programs at JBMH, our Medical Staff Association, Auxiliary, and Foundation, as well as some of our key community partners including Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Community Care Access Centre, Halton EMS and Police, the City of Burlington and many more. We have received some great feedback on our Strategic Framework and we are continuing our engagement throughout the end of March with opportunities for public and patient feedback through our website www.jbmh.com. Our Draft Strategic Plan will be posted

for comment on the JBMH website and we encourage you as medical professionals to review the presentation as well as your patients, friends and neighbours. We welcome and value the input of our JBMH team and community as we define the direction of our organization over the next three years. The Draft Strategic Plan will be presented to our Board of Governors on April 6, 2011 for approval and we will continue to engage with you, our staff, volunteers, partners, patients and community through the coming months as we embark upon our Strategic Plan 2011–2014.

JBMH welcomes new role in Medical Affairs

Frances Roesch is the inaugural Director of Medical Affairs at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, reporting directly to Dr. Dwight Prodger, Vice President, Medical Affairs. Frances will provide day-to-day support to JBMH’s physician leadership and is a member of the leadership group and quality and performance management council. Major accountabilities include supporting the medical leadership with quality, safety and service initiatives, as well as risk management, medical-legal matters, bylaws, policies and procedures as they relate to the professional staff. After nearly four years as the first Director, Medical Affairs and Medical Recruitment at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Frances is

pleased to return to work in LHIN 4, having worked previously as Medical Recruiter with Brant Community Healthcare System. Frances completed a Bachelor of Public Relations from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and a Masters in Health Administration at The University of Memphis, Tennessee. Before returning to Canada, Frances spent several years as Editor with the Illinois State Medical Society in Chicago. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Editorial Board of Healthcare Executive, a Chicago based periodical for Healthcare Leaders. "With a history of lifelong learning Frances brings a true passion for the work

she does in the whole area of medical affairs. Combine this passion with her energy and engaging personality and we are pleased to welcome her to her new role at JBMH," says Dr. Prodger.

New Director of IT and CIO joins JBMH Alisdair Miller is our new Director of Information Technology & eHealth / Chief Information Officer. Alisdair joins us from the Brant Community Healthcare System where he last served as the Director, Information and Communication Technology and Health Information Services. Alisdair was responsible for the operational and tactical activities of the Information Technology Department. He was also responsible for the implementation of the BCHS eHealth Strategic Plan which included 28 major initiatives. Alisdair was Co-Chair of the BCHS Information Services Team which was recognized in their Canadian Health

Accreditation Report for best practice. In his role at JBMH, Alisdair will provide leadership for JBMH in the area of Information Management (IM; People, Process, and Technology) and eHealth. Alisdair will coordinate the related strategic planning in partnership with internal and external stakeholders. His responsibilities will include the execution of tactical plans and ensuring operational efficiencies in support of achieving related approved strategies. All of this will be achieved with a focus on client service, best practices and experience in all areas of Information Management. "Alisdair brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
