This project is about visualizing Omaha in 2050. Idea for urban design intervention and the site location was choosen keeping in my mind the future of autonomous vehicles, sharing economy and internet of things. The role as an urban designer was to select a desired site and visualize the same site for future. The design intervention proposed here is going to solve the biggest probelm of accessibility to fresh food and affordable housing in downtown of Omaha.

CO2

Strategic location of downtown in connecting two cities emission

Economic model Ownership: Public Private Partnership model could work here to get benefits from this parking strucutre. Money from real estate corporations and government owned land can be a great model for earning.

Cost:

Cost factor ill include both operational and maintenance cost of the building and indoor farms.

Revenue: Revenue generation will be boosted up as the parking spots will now serve as places for affordable housing and the indoor farming activity is going to fulfill needs of people. However the dead space in downtown will be replaced by a live space.

Phases of the project During phasing, both parking strucutre and street will be changing. Transition from complete vehicular streets to implementation of BRTS, street car will be transformed into more pedestrian, bikable and connected through transit oriented development(hyprloop). Whereas indoor farming is the first installment, followed by 3d printed houses and setting up drone deleivery depot on the roof. In sum the dull prking structure will transform into more meaningful space benefiting all stakeholders.

Crafting informal settlement

Lima, Peru

A tool for neighborhood revitalization

This project proposal was to suggests that how public spaces shapes the neighborhood. Two kinds of interventions proposed for this alto peru neighborhood. One was a broader idea to connect the neighborhood to ocean and the other was to carve series of public spaces to connect the differences in neighborhood, bringing better social connections and also creating jobs at the same time. However design interventions used are very mobile, sustainable and flexible in nature. As idea was to bring vibrancy in the neighborhood.

Broader Strategies proposed for the project Major idea was to tie the neighborhood through variety of activities, thus establishing lost connection of neighborhood to sea as well as develope the journey as a tourist spot. Using cable car as a medium to travel from top of the site to south pacific ocean was the prime thought which could boosts both economic and recreational activities.

Design interventions The project was about to provide solutions to urban problems like lack of social spaces, recreational spaces and economic spaces in the neighborhood. Site was a challenging one, as it was a dense neighborhood on a slope. Idea was to create multiple nodes in the neighborhood. During the process several typologies of caved out spaces were generated. Likewise (a) unutilized lots/houses, (b) reclaimed terraces of the house (c) small pockets (d) narrower streets (e) acess points to houses on slopes and (f) side walks adjacent to massive dead walls. Intention of design of the carved out space was very mobile, sustainable and flexible. Materials used were eco friendly and the arrangement of interventions were done on temporary basis so that multiple use of the public spaces. Design interventions were also based upon the necessity of neighborhood people.

Tea Boutique Resort

Nuwara-eliya, Srilanka

A resort overlooking tea estate

This project was a part of my undergraduate thesis in architecture program. The site for the project was challenging as it had a slope of 32* from the main road level. However the program for the resort was provided by the existing Mackwood Tea Estate (Client). The other challenge was that the site was accessed by only one major road. The design of the resort was more contemporary and it comprised of several Sri-Lankan design elements. The idea was to develope a resort which provides a rejuvinating experience to the people. Blending the resort in the site was important to acheive a native feeling.

Process diagrams to carve out possible built spaces on the site

Spaces proposed in the resort campus This Tea boutique resort campus is designed for the existing Mackwood Tea estate and factory. The spaces are organised in a way that from all the points in the resort campus, you can witness sprawling views of the Tea estate on the other side of resort campus. All the trees on the site are retained, and the materials used in construction are all local.

Heirarchy of spaces in resort Order of the spaces were done keeping in mind that there is a distinction between the public and private spaces in the resort. Private spaces mostly are located on top of the site, so that they can have a better view. People pay for privacy when they are on a vacation and it is important for a designer to design series of private spaces in the resort. Swimming pool Deck

Features of the resort Idea was to develope small details within architectural setting of the resort campus so that it has a touch of local architecture at the same time visitors can feel luxury within the natural setting. Multiple decks, water bodies with infinity edges and lake endorsing natural ecosystem was a part of this boutique resort.

Villas in this cluster are arrangd at different levels so that all the spaces can access the panoramic views of the tea estate on the other side. There are several recreational spaces like terraces with fire places, reflection pool, hanging cabanas, cafeteria, etc. in this cluster which can be used by people.

Spaces in the cluster Design of this cluster was done in accordance to the topography. Idea was to design spaces which are rooted to the ground. At the same time use of natural topography helped to organize villas at different levels, which created several common spaces and also gave privacy to the people. Floating House

Ahmedabad, India A residence in the outskirt of the city The site has a dimension of 215 ft by 116 ft. Client demanded a house that would feature “Living in green as he was a farmer and also had a large area. The house is designed with all the luxuries like gym, swimming pool, a sprawling garden and has a built up area of 14,000 sq ft. The main design idea is to have series of floating cantilevers giving a different look to the roof of the house. House is fully designed as per the vastu science. My role was to conceptual design and site supervision.

A City Museum

Surat, India An institute representing the city’s history and future

This project is supposed to be the first city museum in the city of Surat. City is well known for its production of cotton, diamond polishing and delicious food. This city also has a great history, as it served as the only custom gate to enter the country during british rule in India. Idea was to create an iconic building which can be a landmark in the city, at the same time functionality of the spaces were equally important. Design represents form of the building as an element of art located at the edge of Tapi river.

Ground floor layout of the site

Design features of the museum Design of the facade is curvilinear which complements the geometrical grid design of the planning. Cladding used is stainless steel in the curvilinear facade which is 100% recyclable material. This not only turns the building as an artistic object but also helps in conveying messege that the city is moving towards a brighter future.

Kurukshetra Muktidham

Surat, India

Revitalization of hindu cremetorium

This project was more about giving back more to community. The client anted to develope the exisitng hindu cremetorium as a public space. It was challenging design problem as it involved bringing in womens and children who were never allowed to enter this space. My role was in planning, 3d visulaiation & site supervision of the project. However this revitalization project brings in more services for community and will help in promoting more sustainability in the city.

Inspirit

Surat, India Reviving the past

The site is called “Furza Ovara” which is a historic river edge in the city, as it once served as the gateway to Mecca and marked the beginning of trade and commerce. It was challenging to merge elements of hindu and islamic architecture in the same site because the existing temple was to be retained. The design basically revives the original ghats (steps to river), retains temple and proposes sacred garden, walkway, recreational spaces that could allow people to be near the holy river. This design could blend people with the river by reviving the past tradition and culture in this fast growing city. This project was presented for “ISOLA Landscape trophy” (a national level competition) and the project received first prize with over more than 200 competitiors.

Proposed revitalization on the site My role was majorly to design, conceptualize and make 3d visualization of the whole site. Most of the existing elements like temple, sacred trees, entrance gate, ghats were revived. The idea behind this revitalization was to restore the old traditional and cultural value of this place.

Perspective showing chowk and retained temple However adding recreational space on the site was to bring in more people to this place. The design of the site was done in a way that people of all ages enjoy this place and make optimum utilization of this place. In addition to it, a bay bridge was proposed which served as a walking and a recreation spot. Reviving this area is going to bring a much needed urban space for the people living in the central core of the city, thus creating a breathing space.

Elysium Arise

Ahmedabad, India Community housing appartments

This project is about developing community housing for a medium income people by creating appartments and 4-bhk villa on the site. The design concern here was to accomodate more number of houses in the site so that the developer could benefit more. The design of the highrise was done with a idea of hanging balconies on all the floors. The layout was designed in a way that maximum utilization of common spaces could be acheived. My role is the proect was to design this project from scratch, to develope conceptual design and planning of the site. Currently this site is in construction phase with the same design done by me.

Type - B planning of Appartment wing 2 Spaces were very meticulously carved in this site, as the site was small. Using water features, canopies, screens and green spaces the spaces blend well with the surroundigns. Another new design strategy of stacked parking was applied to this project as we created spaces in such a way that maximum parking could be availbale to owners. My major task was to create 3d model and renderings for initial meeting with the client and also tho present the conceptual idea behind the site planning. However calculations based upon FSI was one important peice to convince client.
