BETWEEN THE NETWORK Linear cycling greenway system

In 1961, the National freeway NO.1 was built to the west of Taiwan. The freeway had been located in the rural place at first. After 30 years, the population kept growing, and city scale are expanding. Meanwhile, the freeway had became the hub of transportation. Nowadays, people require more efficient and convenient life. The crisis of energy causes the government raising awareness for increasing the low-carbon emission transportation such as bikeway network system. In a short distance, the cyclists could consume the local vegetation and a long distance for commuting. To ride the bike is not only for leisure life but also for commuting life. In this project, we tried to attach the bikeway system on the original freeway structure. Before planning, we found the advantage that there were interchanges and rest stations which could connect to the local community in each average 4.5 km in National Freeway No.1. We followed these advantages and started to research the tectonic of freeway structure and grounds, and we utilized dynamic prototype thinking with scientists and engineers research to develop the parallel bikeway system on the freeway system. Finally, we combined the local traditional agriculture and connected the regional network system with new form of cycling structure. It promotes more function and valuable in the useless spaces. In the near future, people can ride the bike between capital city: Taipei to Taoyuan in less than an hour without any traffic jam. We are looking forward to have more diversity and more efficient life.
