the facts

The goal of this project is to establish a new architectural language for education - defining a relationship between the interior and exterior environment, but does not change the content or structure that is currently being used by educators. Due to the size constraints of this project, this space will contain only one area of education - Fine Arts - and could be used as a proof of concept.

“Two heads are better than one” John Heywood “Children are our most valuable resource.” - Herbert Hoover “I walk slowly, but I never walk backward.” Abraham Lincoln “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.” Yogi Berra “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” - Martin Luther King Jr. “Remember who you are” - Mufasa “Fear of the unknown. They are afraid of new ideas. They are loaded with prejudices, not base upon anything in reality, but based on...if something is new, I reject it immediately because it’s frightening to me. What they do instead is just stay with the familiar. You know, to me, the most beautiful things in all the universe, are the most mysterious.” Dr. Wayne Dyer “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” - Wayne Gretzky “Even if they beat you 99 times out of 100, that still leaves...one time.” - Little Giants “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” - Mark Twain “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela “Success is a journey, not a destination.” - Ben Sweetland “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” - Christopher Robin “A great pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.” - Walter Gagehot “One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confidence is preparation.” - Arthur Ashe “Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children” - Walt Disney “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” - Maya Angelou “I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.” - Michael Jordan “And in the naked light I saw ten thousand people, maybe more. People talking without speak, people hearing without listening, people writing songs that voices never share, and no one dared, disturb the sound of silence” - Simon and Garfunkel “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.” - Helen Keller

the thesis The integration of the arts in the classroom can enhance and facilitate discussions in math, science, and literacy.

the hypothesis A focus on the exterior environment from the interior spaces can stimulate, nurture, and promote a child’s education.

the parti statement The education exploration of art, whether it be music, dance, fine art, or theater, originates from two locations; exposure through performance and social interaction. These origins create a journey that is composed through a variety of experiences.

the parti origins Created from a deconstructed music staff, the parti has four lines that are disconnected for two bars. The spaces are the traditional location for notations to be placed. The gap between the lines and the end points are the silence before and after a performance. The transparency allows for the composition to be a movement and now a hard set formula.

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” – Chinese Proverb “You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world’s problems at once but don’t ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.” Michelle Obama “Don’t count the days - make the days count.” - Muhammad Ali “In this lifetime, you don’t have to prove nothin’ to nobody, except yourself. And after what you’ve gone through, if you haven’t done that by now, it ain’t never gonna happen” - Fortune “If I show you my dark side, will you still hold me tonight? And if I open my heart to you and show you my weak side, what would you do?” - Roger Waters “Let me go, I don’t wanna be your hero. I don’t wanna be a big man, I just wanna fight with everyone else” - Family of the Year “If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.” - Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe “Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.” - Baz Luhrmann “We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.” - Ronald Reagan “Don’t ever let somebody tell you...you can’t do something. Not even me. All right?....You got a dream...you gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.” - Will Smith “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that.” - Dumbledore “Oh yes. The past can hurt, but the way I see it - you can either run from it. . . . or learn from it.” - Rafiki “I’m starting with the man in the mirror. I’m asking him to change his ways. And no message coulda’ been any clearer, if you wanna make the world, a better place take a look at yourself and make a change.” - Michael Jackson “The board is set, the pieces are moving. We come to it at last, the great battle of our time.” - Gandalf “I recognize the council has made a decision, but given that it’s a stupid-ass decision, I’ve elected to ignore it.” - Nick Fury “Here you leave today and enter a world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.” - Disney “It’s like in the great stories Mr. Frodo, the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn’t want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end it’s only a passing thing this shadow, even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines it’ll shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something even if you were too small to understand why. But I think Mr. Frodo, I do understand, I know now folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going because they were holding on to something. That there’s some good in the world, Mr. Frodo, and it’s worth fighting for.” - Samwise Gamgee “Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.” - Winston Churchill “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own, and you know what you know. And you are the guy who’ll decide where to go.” - Dr. Seuss “Don’t worry about a thing, because every little thing, gonna be alright.” - Bob Marley “They don’t know about real loss, because that only occurs when you love something more than you love yourself.” Robin WIlliams “This is where they fought the battle of Gettysburg. Fifty thousand men died right here on this field, fighting the same fight that we are still fighting amongst ourselves today. If we don’t come together right now on this hallowed ground, we too will be destroyed, just like they were.” -Coach Boone “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” - Franklin D. Roosevelt “You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” - Oscar Wilde “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” - Lao Tzu “Your imagination is your preview of life’s coming attractions.” - Albert Einstein “To build a better world sometimes means tearing the old one down...and that makes enemies.” - Alexander Pierce “What we do in life. . . echoes in eternity.” - Russel Crowe “Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you sow.” - Robert Louis Steveson “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” - Vince Lombardi ”Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belong to the people who prepare for it today.” Malcom X “It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.” - Vince Lombardi “The real opportunity for success lies within the person and not in the job.” - Zig Ziglar “Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.” - Baz Luhrmann “The important thing is not being afraid to take a chance. Remember, the greatest failure is to not try. Once you find something you love to do, be the best at doing it.” - Debbi Fields “Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” - Mother Teresa “Many of life’s failures are experienced by people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up” - Thomas Edison “Be more concerned with your character than with your reputation. Your character is what you really are while your reputation is merely what others think you are.” - John Wooden “I am prepared for the worst, but hope for the best.” - Benjamin Disraeli “Anything worth doing is worth doing right.” - Anonymous “We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room

We’re born for them. They can’t be artificially evoked. It doesn’t always mean plot or fact. They aren’t an actual exact science. That’s what’s so special about stories. They’re not predictable.
