Days of Summer Directed by Marc Webb, this romance film centres on Tom (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a love-struck boy who believes Summer (played by Zooey Deschanel) is the perfect girl for him. Summer on the other hand, doesn’t believe in true love, relationships, or boyfriends, but despite that they became more than just friends.

Jaws- the film everybody has heard of, and associates with beach attacks makes an entry in this list. The film is about a shark terrorizing the beach, and how it continues to do so because the mayor decides not to close the beach. These attacks lead to three people eventually heading out to sea to hunt down the shark no matter what it takes.

The movie is essentially about a dream team of heroes joining forces to take down a single evil. The group of superheroes include the likes of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

Along the way he meets people like Red (played by Morgan Freeman), and he grows a bond with these people and ends up changing their lives as well as helping them realize the value of hope and freedom.

“Fame, Fortune and

Looks all fade away. Real talent will prevail and last longer.”

MOY ORTIZ

META | 39

Keeping me company: 1. Can you give a short description of your career right now? I am the musical and artistic director of a vocal group called The CompanY. We have been in existence for 33 years and counting. We have released 27 studio albums and have garnered 63 music/entertainment industry awards. I am also a multi-awarded vocal arranger, record and concert producer and composer. I am also a teacher at Meridian International College aka Mint College.

2. How did it all start? What pushed you to be part of the industry? All the founding members of The CompanY were members of the Ateneo Glee Club. When our college gang started graduating one by one, we realized that we missed singing together. We had withdrawal symptoms from harmony singing, so we started a group that would get together on Fridays. This Friday group was initially formed as a form of therapy to help the original 12 founding members from the stresses of their first jobs or from academic pressures of the Ateneo. Subsequently, we decided to sing a cappella sets in an Italian restaurant. During one of our a cappella performances, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab offered us a job as back up vocalists in his upcoming concert with Celeste Legaspi at the CCP. That was how the ball got rolling because after that show, we were offered work every month during our first year.

3. What are the difficulties you encountered as an artist? Do you have any regrets? Like any career, building one’s reputation and integrity is always a challenge. In the beginning, No one knows you. People are cautious to give you a break because you and your talent are still unknown. You have to slowly build a reputation of being professional

Q&A

and excellent. Another challenge was having financial stability. Because of the nature of the music industry, one’s cash flow is irregular. There are peak and lean seasons financially. You have to constantly save up. One never knows when the next job will come, and this is why, every performance (whether big or small, paid or not, has to be impressive so that producers, industry peers and your audience will know you as an excellent performer). Every show matters. It was only when our first single from our debut album - “Everlasting Love” beCame a national hit, was when we felt that we moved on to the next level in our career. It was never the same after that first pop song on the radio that became a very big hit. I absolutely have no regrets.

4. What is your message/advice to those who want to be like you? Never just rely on your talent alone. The music and entertainment industries are filled with extremely talented people. Talent does not make you distinct in this business. One has to have discipline: the discipline to educate oneself in one’s craft, to rehearse, to study and research, and to go the extra mile. The most important thing should be your craft, skill, talent and showmanship. Don’t chase after popularity and money in the beginning. Don’t anchor your career on your looks. Fame, Fortune and Looks all fade away. Real talent will prevail and last longer.

Look Good, Do Good

Written by: Nathan Padlan

Iraq Kurdistan has been getting a great attention lately; however it is not because of its usual reasons. The self governing district in northern Iraq is still on the cutting edge in the fight against the Islamic State, yet its capital city, Erbil, is currently known for another reason: as home to a gathering of trendy youthful fashionable gentlemen. The group of dapper gentlemen calls themselves Mr. Erbil. Mr. Erbil’s launch and first photo shoot last February 2016 quickly made waves on social media. Iraq’s first gentleman’s fashion club, Mr. Erbil, now has some 30 core members and more than 100,000 fans on Instagram, Facebook and other social media. The group’s activity focuses on organizing trade shows and cultural events to promote fashion as “aesthetic expression”. “We‘ve got all kinds of gentlemen. We’ve got a car mechanic, a doctor, engineers, shop owners, government people, everything,” said Ahmed Nauzad, who is a marketing research manager and the founder of Mr. Erbil. It is not just about fashion. Mr. Erbil started a movement representing young Iraqi Kurds who are looking for a better life and want to promote Kurdish culture to the world. Mr. Erbil also started a social The Mr. Erbil account on Instagram writes a post on the “girl inspiration” every Thursday. It is to promote women working on behalf of the community. One of the “girl inspirations” is Dashni Morad. She gives workshops in leadership skills to women who survived the massacre and rape of members of northern Iraq’s Yazidi sect by IS militants. These dapper gentlemen look good and at the same time do good. The Mr. Erbil indeed proved that Iraq is not just a country of war and terrorism. Not only is Mr. Erbil a clothing brand, it is also a political movement.

LIFES

Top 3 Ways To Pack Smart When Travelling By: Kyle Zachary R. Constantino TIP#2 – SHOES ARE LIKE POUCHES TOO Make the shoes do double duty by stuffing them full of small items like jewelry (in a zip-lock bag), ties (rolled up), or socks and underwear (in a plastic bag). TIP # 1 – FORGET FOLDING, INSTEAD ROLL

TIP#3 – INVEST IN BUNDLE PACKING METHOD

Rolling your clothes not only saves space in your bag but it also wrinkles less compared to folding it.

This packing strategy involves filling a small pouch with soft items and then wrapping larger clothing items around the pouch to form a bundle.
