ESSENTIALS
This is a self-managed initiative and we do not count with funding We will, however, work for having the best setting as possible for everyone, so if you can help in anyway in regards to following matters, please contact me at jmor853@aucklanduni.ac.nz, Facebook or Instagram to talk about further collaboration.
The venue is going to be presettled for your arrival. Each group has the possibility and the responsibility of taking care, playing and experimenting with things and the placement of things. As a group, we engage with an ongoing co-installation of the materials, matters and materialities we hold ourselves accountable for
We will engage with a play-full, care-full and desire-able co(n)text. This will be a collective experience that encourages you to value your personal interests while activating a group environment. Welcome your personal ‘microperformances’.
The venue has a WiFi connection, if you want you can also bring your personal computer. However, I encourage it to be used only as a resource for the investigations to keep the immersive atmosphere to the process The idea of the residency is to create a ‘suspended’ space-time so that we can immerse ourselves into artistic research processes that we may otherwise not engage during our daily creative processes, So try to enjoy this retreat period!
I suggest you to bring comfortable clothing
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING TO CO-INSTALL?
Bring your curious and available body You may also feel that it is helpful to bring any sort of resources that seem important for your own artistic endeavours. Maybe that is a very technical tool or a non-expert expertise Some things these might be are: Tools, Materials, Desires, Images, Technologies, Devices, Specific and/or General Skills, Curious Facts and so on
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING TO WITNESS?
Bring anything that supports you to gather evidence about facts that you might personally see or hear during your witnessing day. These might be: Photo/Video Camera, External HD and/or USB stick, Electronic or 'Physical' Devices, Journals, Recorders, Markers and so on...
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BRING AS A GIFT TO THE NEXT ARTIST?
As the Guest/Witness of the day, you may want to leave a gift or an invitation to the guest/witness artist coming up next. Please feel welcome to do so. Please let the Host know if and what it is so they can make sure the next artist(s) are delivered your gift accordingly

PROGRAMME
PREMISES AND AN OPEN DOOR
This is not (only) an exhibition
This is not (only) an art residency programme
This is not (only) a choreography
This might be a soft place of encounters
This might be a constellation of artefacts
This is an invitation
For 14 days George Fraser Gallery will become location for a constellation of belongings
For 14 days, the house will accommodate variant groups of artists that have to follow an only rule:
consistently co-install a softexhibition-in-residence.
The gallery will operate on an open door policy, being open to the public at all times
Each day Janaína Moraes will host a guest and a witness artist
Guest Artists arrive at the space to feel welcomed They may lay down in the sun and do anything they like, get to understand the rules of the host. If the host has no rules, they can make the rules up, They might know or guess what they are invited to Or else, the guest artist may do whatever they know about guesting
Witness Artists arrive at the space to gather evidence about what that they have personally seen, heard, touched, smelled, tasted They are invited to use any resources available to notate narratives and discourses in order to think – in a material way – about the relation between testimony and reality. In general, they practice strategies for witnessing.
CONSTELLATIONS
Grouping or relative position of the stars. Supposedly they influence events.
Orientation points, demarcations, points of reference
BELONGING
Being in the relation of a member, adherent, inhabitant, etc
Having the proper (?) qualifications, especially social qualifications, to be a member of a group
Being properly (?) or appropriately (?) placed, situated, etc
CO-INSTALLATIONS
The act of installing collectively
Collectively having something installed, as machinery or apparatus placed in position or connected for use
The fact of being 'installed with'.
BELONGINGS
Possessions; goods; personal effects
BE-LONGING
The practice of persistently desiring or craving, especially for something unattainable or distant
PROTOCOLS FOR A QUEER CONVIVIALITY
For the best experience, please come open to exchange and be available to listen the subtleties within the (dis)encounters Do not avoid what is beyond the pre/established program and trust in the knowledge the unknown may bring.
We acknowledge the existence of a community of bodies and desires that will arrive and depart from the location at multiple times In this sense we invite all artists to consider that:
a day has as many beginnings and endings as needed/desired language will be experienced beyond functionality. we do not take for granted what came before us and what we leave behind.
Throughout the day we will, amongst other things:
• practice 1 hour of silence
• offer our breath
• take a picture of the beginning of the day
• take a picture of the ending of the day
• walk and talk
• play
• eat
• co-install
• leave residues on the Wall
• perform a scheduled activation
• debrief and exchange archive
