Orangerie Den Bosch in the former St. Joseph church Today we know the current Orangerie Den Bosch as a beautiful location with a lot of atmosphere where various types of events and entertainment take place. But who has left his tracks here so that we can enjoy this neo-Gothic style architecture in the city center of Den Bosch today. Cultural History - Patients Redemptorists The St. Joseph Church was built as a monastery church for the Patriarchal Redemptorists. The Patriarchs Redemptorists, founded in 1732 by Saint Alfonsus-Maria de Liguori and since 1832 based in The Netherlands. They mainly engaged in their public missions, in which the worship of Mary played a major role. The return of the Maria statue, or the Sweet Mother in 1853, caused the Patriarchal Redemptorists, in addition to Wittem in 1836 and Amsterdam in 1850, to settle definitively in s-Hertogenbosch and want a bigger accommodation. Six years later in December 1859, the Redemptorist church was taken into neo-Gothic style. In general, the St. Joseph church was also called the Patriarchs Church, where everyone was always welcome. Second New Street was at the end of 1890 St. Joseph Street The St. Joseph Church was built at the Second Nieuwstraat. From 1890 the street name in St. Joseph Street changed. St. Joseph Church Even though the exterior of the former St. Joseph church may seem somber to some people, the interior is very special and atmospheric. The ?? Crucifixion ?? with three-sided chorus was built to a design by the architect Van Veggel. The vaults in the neo-Gothic St. Joseph church were made by C. Vrensen to a design by L.C. Hezemans and restored by Th. Hermsen. The remaining paintings are manufactured by Th. Hermsen and A. van Bokhoven. Not to mention are the beautiful wooden communes and the pulpit with its many statues. These were under the responsibility of the Bossche sculptor Hendrik van der Geld (18381914). He was a student at the Royal School. In memory For no centuries, the Patriarchal Redemptors have been able to use this beautiful building. The runoff ran back and after the last miss in 1971 the last patrons left for Wittem. In memory of the Cardinal of Rossum (1853, 1932) and also in honor of all the work of the Patriarchal Redemptorists in Den Bosch, there is a bronze statue on the Cardinal of Rossum Square. Rossumplein Cardinal is near the Orangerie Den Bosch. The statue was made by August Falise. August Falise is also responsible for the statue of Jeroen Bosch on the market. On June 24, 1934, the image was revealed by the Pope's diplomatic representative. L. Schioppa. This happened on the sixth Catholic day which had a theme: "The Authority". The Catholic days were held in the Netherlands from 1899 to 1940. Uninhabited That the Patriarchs Redemptorists left meant a vacant St. Joseph church. Until the end of the eighties, the former church became a place where artists and musicians could end up. After that, the property became owned by Jan-karel Konings. The big renovation began to restore the damage that caused the fires over time, and the property was adapted to the needs of facilities of the present time. In 1991, the former St. Joseph church was reopened and is now known as the Orangerie. Orangerie The Orangerie monastery has three neo-Gothic halls, Orangerie Hall, Jeroen Bosch Hall and the Garden of Lusten. (The names that the Orangerie Den Bosch uses refers to the Bossche painter Jeroen and to one of Jeroen Bosch's paintings). Behind the Orangerie Den Bosch lies the Jeroen Boschtuin. In the summer you will see the back of the Orangerie Den Bosch through the green trees. The Orangerie, known for its unique location and enchanting atmosphere, collaborates with various artist offices and provides Den Bosch with various entertainment and events, both business, private and public. Such as hiring of the halls and various shows, fairs, congresses, dinners and even parties. In addition to the special atmosphere that the former St. Jacob church already radiates, the Orangerie Den Bosch knows with the right decoration and care to ensure a unique day or evening!
