61 AN ARAB DAGGER (JAMBIYA), 19TH CENTURY with curved double-edged blade formed with a medial ridge on each face, gilt-copper hilt of characteristic form, chased over its surface with scrolling foliage against a punched ground, in its scabbard decorated en suite, the inner face decorated with a scale design, the base with bulbous terminal and with three small loops on each side of the mouth for attachment to a belt (rings missing) 16.5 cm; 6 ½ in blade Provenance G. 63 A RUSSIAN SILVER-MOUNTED DAGGER (KINDJAL), ST PETERSBURG, LATE 19TH CENTURY with broad double-edged blade of watered steel, formed with a short central fuller on each face, retaining traces of silver koftgari on one face at the forte, hilt of characteristic form, encased in silver chased and decorated with niello scrolls against a finely punched and gilt ground, retained by two rivets with foliate heads, in its scabbard decorated over the outer face en suite with the hilt, the inner face decorated with niello scrollwork, struck with three marks including town mark, silver control mark and the maker’s mark, probably HK, incorporating a red leather central panel, with a single loop for suspension and a very small portion of its silver thread suspension 21.8 cm; 8 ⅝ in blade Provenance Sotheby’s, 23rd April 1979, lot 57 £350-500 64 AN INDO-PERSIAN AXE (ZAGNAL), 19TH CENTURY with slightly curved dagger-like blade, block-shaped central moulding engraved and gilt with a lion front and back, extending to a shaped moulding to enclose the blade and with a budshaped rear pean, etched haft decorated with a watered pattern over its full surface, and parcel gilt bulbous basal moulding 46.2 cm; 18 ¼ in overall Provenance Sotheby’s, 23rd April 1979, lot 72 £500-700
