After months of hibernation, preparation and anticipation The
Art collectors and owl enthusiasts are being offered the chance to bid for one of The Big Hoot owls.
Big Hoot has landed in Birmingham, with parliaments of large owl sculptures taking up perch across streets, parks and open spaces. Turning the city and its surrounding areas into a free and accessible public art gallery, The Big Hoot offers residents and visitors the opportunity to explore an engaging trail of 89 stunningly-designed owls as well as the chance to reconnect with Birmingham, to discover its rich cultural and creative offering. Presented by Wild in Art in partnership with Birmingham Children’s Hospital, over 80 critically-acclaimed and up-and-coming artists from across Birmingham, the wider Midlands region and further afield have designed the 5ft 5in tall striking sculptures. On display until Sunday 27 September, each sculpture is truly unique in its own style and character with designs realised in genres including graffiti, illustration, fine art, graphics, typography, mosaic and new media.
The auction will take place on the evening of Thursday 15 October at Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum and is expected to raise £500,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. Fieldings Auctioneers Ltd, Fine Art and Antique auctioneers of Stourbridge will be taking charge of the proceedings to help the owls find the perfect permanent perch. The bidding for each owl is expected to start in the region of £3,000£5,000, with favourites such as Dr Whoot and Ozzy’s Owl expected to raise considerably more. The auction will be a ticketed event. Visitors will enjoy cartoon owls, night owls, wise owls, celebrity owls and owls that celebrate Birmingham’s landmark architecture, history, people, places and cultural diversity.
