ILLUSTRATED. £1200 - £1500 CHAHAR WALL MASK One of Clarice’s key achievements was that she made and sold a broad range of “fancies” during the Depression, when you’d think sales of such items would be limited. This was not the case with hers. Other factories were producing animals or birds, whilst Clarice’s fancies often featured stylish women. Chahar, inspired by Egyptian art and the Owen Jones ‘Grammar of Ornament’ book was her earliest mask. Eleven inches high and produced in 1929 it sold successfully until around 1933; its colours being mostly consistent as coral, jade and yellow.
