Lieutenant Colonel Clarence Edward Penny (1893-1957), born in Somerset, moved to Kirton near Boston, Lincolnshire, educated at Kirton Grammar School, served with the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry from, served in India with the Punjabi Regiment from 1917, commissioned Captain in the 11/9th Jat Regiment, advanced Major 1942 leading the 26/9th Jat Regiment, guarding ports, towns, airports and prisoner of war camps, he was also present during the Congress riots and retired from service in 1946.
