1481 An 18th century Irish mahogany longcase clock, 32cm arched brass dial inscribed James Aickin, Corke (sic), above a foliate mask, silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture, twin winding holes, 8-day movement striking on a bell, the hood with break-arch pediment and brass ball-and-spire finial, brass capped Doric columns, serpentine arched door to waist flanked by quarter-columns, outlined throughout with boxwood stringing, skirted base, bracket feet, 233cm high, c.1770 James Aiken (1738 - 1780) was apprenticed in Cork 1752 - 1759 after which he set up on his own account and worked in the city until his death. His younger brother George was apprenticed in London in 1763 £300 - £500

1482 An early Victorian long case clock, the painted arched dial painted with country house, Roman chapter ring, pheasant in flight to centre, floral spandrels, thirty hour movement striking on a bell, the hood with curly pediment, turned columns, the trunk with short door flanked by reeded pilasters, 203cm high

An old note from the vendor’s family attributes this clock to A Launt of Chesterfield, N.B. Antony Launt was working from Beetwell Street, Chesterfield, by 1846, but by 1862 had moved to Broad Pavement. £100 - £150 1483

1483 An early Victorian mahogany longcase clock, 36cm arched painted dial inscribed with Roman numerals, rolling moonphase with ships to arch, each spandrel with a sportsman, hound and the day’s bag, subsidiary seconds dial, twin winding holes, 8-day movement striking on a bell, the hood with swan neck pediment and fluted upstand, shaped rectangular door to waist flanked by split turnings, outlined throughout with chequered banding and boxwood stringing, plinth base, 225cm high, c.1845 £200 - £300

1485 Whitehurst Interest - a George III longcase clock movement, 33.5cm arched enamel dial inscribed Smith, Alfreton, Roman and subsidiary Arabic numerals, the arch painted with a girl and her dog, batwing paterae to spandrels, 30-hour mechanism countwheel striking on a bell, marked WW to edge, ringed pillars, 46cm high, c.1800 Benjamin Smith II was b. c. 1744 and apprenticed to his father Benjamin Smith I (1721-1774), succeeding him in 12774. He was twice married and retired in 1807 selling his stick-intrade to John Platts of Alfreton. Many of his long case movements appear to have been supplied from the Derby workshop of John Whitehurst I & II, these invariably being marked on the lower edge of the plates WW as here. £120 - £150

1484 Freemasonic Interest - a George II/early George III walnut longcase clock, 33cm square brass dial inscribed Johnathan Lees, Bury, Roman and Arabic numerals, cast Rococo spandrels, painted ‘penny’ moonphase, twin winding holes, 8-day movement striking on a bell, the flat top hood with Doric columns, shaped door to waist inlaid with square and compass, flanked by quarter columns, ogee bracket feet, 206cm high, c.1760 Jonathan Lees (1730-1785) was working at Bury from 1751 and later lived at Middleton. £300 - £500 For more images please visit
