1468 A George III Welsh oak and mahogany longcase clock, 28cm arched brass dial inscribed Isiah Richards, Swansea, Roman and subsidiary Arabic numerals, the arch with domed roundel inscribed Tempis Fugit, dolphin and leafy scroll cast spandrels, date apperture, twin-winding holes, eight-day movement striking on a bell, the case with swan neck pediment and brass ball and spire finial, shaped arched rectangular door to waist, flanked by reeded columns and quarter-columns, bracket feet, 226cm high, c. 1780 £300 - £400

Peter Brownsword (1770-1855) was the son of William Brownsword of Parwich was apprenticed to John Whitehurst II 1784-1791 and set up in business at 11 Fingal Street (later renamed Bourne Street)Derby by 1793. His son Robert (born 1813) was a clockmaker in Nottingham. His sister Hannah was the mother of John Smith (1813-1886) the founder of the well known clockmaking firm of Smith of Derby Ltd. Toleman, Carnarvon, Roman and Arabic numerals, the arch painted with a fanciful bird, flowers to spandrels, subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture, twin winding holes, eight-day movement striking on a bell, the case later carved, 215cm high

1471 A George III/IV mahogany musical longcase clock, 38cm arched brass dial inscribed William Wignall, Ormskirk, Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, moon face to arch, triple-winding hole, eight-day movement striking on a bell and chiming on a nest of eight, the hood with swan neck pediment centred by a turned finial above two pairs of reeded Corinthian columns, shaped rectangular door to waist flanked by reeded quarter-columns, crossbanded and outlined throughout with boxwood stringing, 265cm high, c. 1820 £1000 - £1500

William Toleman was born c. 1770 and was the founder of a dynasty of makers in N. Wales. He was working in Caernarvon from 1791 until his death in 1844 and was succeeded by his son John, who also signed from Llangefni, and he by his sons Richard (at Caernarvon to 1890) and John (at Pwllheli, until 1888) £200 - £300
