Chris Hurst set the ball rolling in the 8th minute to alleviate any Penn nerves when he latched onto a defensive error on the edge of the Chalfont box and calmly slotted home from eight yards low to the goalkeepers left hand and into the corner of the net. Penn continued to dominate proceedings with George Weller and Danny Jordan setting up numerous forays behind the Chalfont backline for Casey Bocarro and Jamie West to test the Chalfont defence who were defending valiantly at times.

The second half was only five minutes old when Chalfont had a chance to get back into the game but they shot narrowly wide. This was a warning to Penn which was heeded as they proceeded to carry on where they left off in the first half and once again took control of the game.

On 66 minutes Penn effectively put the game to bed when after a rather muddled exchange of passes and blocked shots in the Chalfont penalty area the ball fell to Adam Harman who made no mistake from 7 yards to put Penn 3-0 up and into cruise mode. The chances continued to come for Penn and on 70 minutes Casey Bocarro played in Jamie West who raced onto the ball and finished a fine move to ram the ball past the onrushing Chalfont keeper. Penn In the 30th minute Chalfont probably played out the remaining 20 minutes lost any hope of getting back into the with ease to record their third win in game when their lively centre forward a row and move to the top of the table Ryan Welsh was sent off for violent above Bicester Town. conduct after an altercation with Penn’s Bradley Holland. The First Team of Penn & Tylers Green FC comfortably won the bragging rights in the local derby against local rivals Chalfont Wasps FC last Saturday and boosted their goal difference with a resounding 4-0 victory at The Crossleys, Chalfont St. Giles. Penn welcomed debutant Mitchel Woodward, a recent signing from Flackwell Heath into the side at right back.

minute Penn took advantage of the numerical advantage and were rewarded for their persistence when a through ball from George Weller released Chris Hurst who proceeded into the Chalfont penalty area where he was unceremoniously bundled to the floor from behind for an undisputed penalty. Up stepped a confident Danny Jordan to firmly despatch the ball to the left of the Chalfont goalkeeper and the ball nestled into the corner of the net. Half time came with Penn leading 2-0.

The Oxfordshire Senior Cup was won in both 1976 and 1981 but a poor spell in the mid eighties preceded a crossing of the pyramid in 198889 to join the South Midlands League. The Club finished runners up in both 1988-89 and 198990 before eventually winning the title in 199091.Thame received the green light to join the Diadora League in 1991/92. 1994-95 saw the Club win the Division 2 Championship with 93 points - an 11 point margin. In 1995/96 the Club reached the 3rd Round Qualifying in the FA Cup and the FA Trophy. In the league we finished a creditable 13th in our first ever season in the Isthmian League Division One. Andy Sinnott was appointed first team manager in June 1997 and, with a dramatically reduced operating budget, the side were relegated into Ryman Division Two. The Club bounced straight back into Ryman Division One and reached the semi-finals of the FA Vase. 1999/2000 saw the Club come within two points of achieving promotion to the Premier Division. 2000/2001 season the team lead the way for most of the season, putting together a club record of 12 consec- utive league wins but a slump in form in the latter part of the season resulted in a 5th place. A mid-table finish followed in 2001/2002 season but the Oxfordshire Senior Cup was retained. Mark West was appointed player/manager when Andy left United during the Summer of 2003. In October 2003 the club reached the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time in its history, before being beaten 1-2 by Conference side Farnborough Town. After a mid-table finish the Club moved to the newly formed Southern League, Division 1 West.

In October 2004 the Club again reached the FA Cup 4th qualifying round and finished the season 11th in the league. Mark West left to join Slough and defender Tony Joyce was appointed player /manager. By July 2005 the Club were in financial trouble and, following a visit from Bailiffs acting on behalf of HMRC, the landlord enforced a clause in the tenancy agreement and evicted the club from Windmill Road. A ground share agreement was reached with neighbours Aylesbury United and, with the side struggling at the foot of the Southern League Division 1 West, Tony Joyce resigned in December 2005, with a new joint managerial partnership of Richard Searl and Alan Thorne appointed. Relegation to the Hellenic League was confirmed later in the season. A ground share agreement was reached with AFC Wallingford for the 2006/07. Mark West returned to the Club mid-way through the season but could not save the Club from relegation to the Hellenic League Division 1 East. The 2007/08 season provided greater stability for the Club, with Mark West and new assistant, Frank Thompson, looking after first team affairs. A mid-table finish resulted, which was followed by a ninth placed finish in 2008/09. 2009/10 saw the Club win the Division 1 East title by six points and reclaim their place in the Premier Division. The 2010/11 season was the most significant in the Club’s recent history. With work on a new £3.1m ground at Meadow View Park commencing in March 2010, United returned to Thame at the ASM Stadium on 11 December 2010, just over five years after their enforced eviction from the town. Boasting eight pitches, a floodlit 3G training pitch and 8000sqft clubhouse, United now have one of the best sporting facilities in the Hellenic League. The official opening against Oxford United on 18th January 2011 set a record crowd of 1,382. In the last two seasons, under the stewardship of Mark West and Stuart Blaik, United have finished fifth and sixth in the Premier Division

Our Opponents

Thame was formed in 1883 making it one of Oxfordshires' oldest clubs. Like many village clubs it lost a number of its playing staff during the Great and second world wars. Indeed, the Cricket Club pavilion is a listed building and a memorial in remembrance of the lives lost French School Meadows, the home ground, takes its name from the long since demolished 18th century School catering for orphans of the French Revolution. The pupils wore a blue uniform with white feathers in their hats giving rise to the clubs blue and white strip and the club logo. French School Meadows was purchased in 1949 (before then the team used to play on the back common) showers were installed in the 1960′s, the brick building built in the 1980′s and the extension developed in 2001. Prior to the building of the club house the HQ for the club was the Horse & Groom Public House. Penn & Tylers Green FC is not only one of the oldest clubs in the county, it is also one of the biggest village sides. Every weekend some 400 children, youths and adults pull on the blue and white stripes of Penn & Tylers Green Football Club. The age range spans from the “Fantastic Footballers” (under-fives) through every age group and all the way to youth and senior footballers including girls and ladies sections. Each team has a number of qualified, dedicated volunteers who ensure the contin- ued success of the club. We are quite simply, the biggest organisation in the village provid- ing vast numbers with the opportunity of participating in a marvellous team game. The club owes a huge debt to previous committee members and volunteers who have worked tirelessly over many years to provide the excellent facilities that we all enjoy today. The function room and patio of the Sports and Social Club, provide an excellent setting for a hazy lazy afternoon, watching Cricket, Tennis and Football in close proximity in an idyllic setting with views over the Chilterns and areas of outstanding natural beauty. The new extension is for hire and is ideal for meetings of local clubs. Given the number of Penn & Tylers Green Football Teams playing each week, it is simply not possible to accommodate all of them at our home ground. That is why we remain grateful for all local schools and recreational grounds for their continued support of the Club. However, it remains the desire of the Football Committee to ensure that as many Penn & Tylers Green teams as possible can play at French School Meadows and truly call it “home”. We continue to demonstrate our commitment in providing mini football to the children of the local area, they are our future. The club is also desirous of improving the senior pitch all the time to ensure that they have the best possible playing surface. The club is a holder of the prestigious FA Community Charter Status and is proud of both its illustrious past and its plans for the future. We are proud, of course, that The First Team won the Hellenic League – Division One (East) title in season 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 and the Reserves wining the Hellenic League – Division Two (East) title in season 2015/2016. The Reserves also won the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup in Seasons 2013/2014 and 2014/2015

Club History

Our present club was formally established in 1905 when it is believed that it adopted its first formal constitution. It achieved its first great success in the 1911/12 season by winning the Wycombe League. This Championship side was captained by George Slade, of Slade’s Garages, who later achieved fame as a champion motor cyclist and side car competitor.
