@penn_football

There was optimism among the away supportersthat the second half might see a comeback. Well, we were disappointed. The second half did not force one save from the Old Woodstock Town FC keeper. We did not turn up in the second half. Old Woodstock Town FC only had one more chance but they were just a tad more clever and streetwise and deserved the win in the end, because they scored and we did not. Maybe the players should have looked at the historic importance of the location. We could have done with a bit of the old Churchill spirit. It was good to have a good chat with some of the club officials. They looked after us and are just as unhappy about the ludicrous ground grading regime maintained by the out of touch Football Association as we are. Another perfectly good club with decent facilities forced out of the league system….Hurray!

Two more games to the final, what an incentive. Watched by our life member Jim Atkins, the boys in blue & white won 4:3 against Mursley United FC Reserves with goals from Shaun Walsh (2), “Man of the Match” Jamie Hunt and (inevitably) Matt Miller.

Club News

Our Opponents CLUB HISTORY Chinnor Football Club was originally formed in 1884, making it one of the oldest clubs in Oxfordshire, and then reconstituted in 1970 playing in the Wycombe & District League, the Chiltonian League and subsequently the Oxfordshire Senior League. In 2003 the club finished runners up in the Oxfordshire Senior League and took the decision to make the step up to the Hellenic League Division 1 East. The first two seasons saw steady progress finishing 11th & then 9th. The only real highlight of the next three years was an excellent run in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup with the club reaching the semi-final for the first time in 2007 only to lose to the eventual winners Banbury United. The highest placed Hellenic finish the club has to date was the 5th place achieved in season 2012/13. David Ridgley continues as first team manager & will again be assisted by Lewis Craker and Craig Williams. The club will again be running four Saturday teams this season with two in the Uhlsport Hellenic League and two in the Wycombe Senior League. The club will also be running two Veterans sides in the Hellenic Veterans Premier & Division One as well as an over 50’s side Off the field the club has seen massive changes as following on from being awarded FA Community Club of the year by Oxfordshire FA through their partnership with Chinnor Youth the two Committees have now merged to form Chinnor Football in the Community. The cub are also hopeful that this season will be their last in the existing clubhouse as the Parish Council hope to start work on a new building early in 2015.

Scouting Review

@penn_football

Club History Penn & Tylers Green present club was formally established in 1905 when it is believed that it adopted its first formal constitution. It achieved its first great success in the1911/12 season by wining the Wycombe League. This Championship captained by George Slade, of Slades Garages, who later achieved fame as a champion motor cyclist and side car competitor. Like many village clubs it lost a number of its playing staff during the Great and secondworld wars. Indeed, the Cricket Club pavilion is a listed building and a memorial in remembrance of the lives lost. French School Meadows, the home ground, takes its name from the long since demolished 16th century School catering for orphans of the French Revolution. The pupils wore a blue uniform with white feathers in their hats giving rise to the clubs blue and white strip and the club logo. French School Meadows was purchased in 1949 (before then the team used to play on the back common) showers were installed in the 1960’s, the brick building built in the 1980’s and the extension 2001. Prior to the building of the club house the HQ for the club was the Horse & Groom pub. Penn & Tylers Green FC is not only one of the oldest clubs in the county, it is also one of the biggest village sides. Every weekend some 400 children, youths and adults pull on the blue and white stripes of Penn & Tylers Green FC. The age range spans from the “Fantastic Footballers” (under fives) through every age group to youth and senior footballers including girls and ladies sections. Each team has a number of qualified, dedicated volunteers who ensure the continued success of the club. We are quite simply the biggest organisation in the village providing vast numbers with the opportunity of participating in the game. The club owes a huge debt to previous committee members and volunteers who have worked tirelessly over many years to provide the excellent facilities that we all enjoy today. The function room and patio of the Sports and Social Club, provide an excellent setting for the afternoon, watching Cricket, Tennis and Football in close proximity with an idyllic view of the Chilterns and areas of outstanding natural beauty. Given the number of Penn & Tylers Green Football Teams playing each week (26 at the last count!), it is simply not possible to accommodate all of them at our home ground. That is why we remain grateful for all local schools and recreational grounds for their continued support of the Club. of the Football Committee to ensure that as many Penn & Tylers Green teams as possible School Meadows and truly call it “home”. We continue to demonstrate our commitment in providing mini soccer to the children of the local area. The club is also desirous of improving the First Team pitch and senior pitch to ensure that they have the best possible playing surface. The club is a holder of the prestigious FA Community Charter status and is proud of both its illustrious past and its plans for the future.

Penn & Tylers Green FC now have three age bands playing girls league football Earlier this season it was agreed for the Under 14s girls and Under 12s girls training at Beaconsfield High this season. There was broad agreement within Penn & Tylers Green FC that the extra costs involved were considered to be an excellent investment into developing and improving young footballers.

Penn & Tylers U15 girls league record in the first half term was played 4, lost 4, goals for 3, goals against 17; in the second half term played 5, won 4, drawn 1, goals for 14, goals against 7. What changed? The manager would like to claim it was the culmination of all those superbly crafted high intensity training sessions that take place on cold winter Monday nights at the club, or perhaps the masterful substitution and tactical plans unveiled on match days. But no. The former is wishful thinking and the latter would be hotly disputed by the girls who often look befuddled by the manager’s interventions. Some claim the catalyst was the new kit in which we are yet to lose a league fixture, others the new hoodies that mean we actually look like a team when we arrive for fixtures.

@penn_football

The reality is far simpler and it is what makes football such a great team sport and life lesson – to steal another phrase from the Football Lexicon “the intangibles” – the spirit to hold on for a draw playing into driving rain at Chinnor, the character to come from behind to beat Crendon, the confidence that carried over into the Chinnor home game, the timely recruitment of three new players to add further We have absolutely no doubt that momentum, the determination that this is due in large part to being able to train on a pitch in all weath- enabled an inexperienced team to travel to Milton Keynes to overcome ers and which helps them improve City Belles and the belief that took their touch and passing skills. In addition, attendance has been very us past City Belles in the return fixture despite conceding the first high – which demonstrates how goal. much the girls are enjoying it. At the start of the season, the manager of the youngest age group had his doubts as to how well the girls would do playing in a league as they were new to competitive football and the two older age band teams in the league had bags more experience than us. However, so far this season the results proved that they are doing very well.

PennTylersGreenFC and on twitter

This is what our football club does. It’s a great facility and the girls have made fantastic strides in their football development. The Under 15s, by now well established in the Bucks Girls Football League are doing well and continue to train at the club.

Girls Football

Junior Football U16s B&B Semi Final: City Colts FC 2 – Penn & Tylers Green FC 3 On a weekend of Cup shocks – take a bow Bradford City – Penn & Tylers Green FC eased through to their second County Cup Final in four years. Still without either regular centre half Penn & Tylers Green FC played with an emergency back four where three of the four were playing out of position. The pitch was narrow and in poor condition which made passing difficult and meant that the game was a battle rather than a pleasing footballing spectacle. Sam Bates has already struck the post before he put Penn & Tylers Green FC ahead mid-way through the first half. Collecting a loose ball after the keeper had kept out his initial effort; Bates skipped away from his marker and planted a firm shot into the net. Having taken the lead Penn & Tylers Green FC then conceded it within minutes. A long ball from the back caught everyone napping and the centre forward nipped in to lift the ball over Isaac Dibsdall’s head and into the net. The second half and Penn & Tylers Green FC upped their game with chances being created and not taken. Finally Bates got away down the left and as the keeper came out to narrow the angle, he calmly lifted the ball over his head to restore the Penn & Tylers Green FC lead. Although Penn & Tylers Green FC were having more of the play City Colts refused to lie down and levelled again. Another soft goal came from a long ball from the back which wasn’t dealt with and the persevering centre forward battled his way past Dibsdall and two defenders before scrambling the ball into the net. It was beginning to feel as though this pattern would see the tie go through to extra time and then penalties. However, finally Penn & Tylers Green FC scored again. Penn & Tylers Green FC worked the ball across the penalty area from left to right where it fell invitingly to Ben Hodges. The keeper did well to keep the initial effort out but the ball rebounded back to Hodges who squeezed it in from a tight angle. This time there was to be no comeback by City Colts FC and Penn & Tylers Green FC closed the game out to take their place in the final. It was a match of endeavour rather than skill, and both sides put in a battling performance, with Penn & Tylers Green FC deservedly coming out as victors. This was the third match in this competition that Penn & Tylers Green FC had won by three goals to two. The winners of the other semi- final between Ascot United and St Edmonds await us. It will be a tougher task that is for sure and we will need the whole squad of 16 back and fit as we attempt to lift to take the big prize.

And the U16 Rangers go marching on.. The FA cup weekend threw up some big results, and at Taplow United we also witnessed some big performances too. Penn & Tylers Green FC Rangers went into this tough away fixture on the back of a great win vs Prestwood, and eager to finish their last season in style. The first 15 minutes were cagey, neither side could get a foothold in the game, it truly was a battle, but one where the team who wanted it most would prevail. The only chance created was by Taplow from a dangerous inswinging corner, but the referee rightly saw the foul on Harry in goal and Penn were let off. From this Penn started to control the middle of the park through some delightful one-twos and tough tackling. Zach Gladman was starting to influence the flow of the game, and Harry Pymm was earning freekicks everytime the ball went near him, chances were sure to arrive soon. Ben Waterhouse rattled the bar on the volley from a deep cross from jack keating, but was more successful on 30 minutes, when he cooly slotted the spinning cross from Zach into the corner on the half volley. 1-0 to Penn as we entered half tme

@penn_football

Jack Keating added a third 5 minutes later, not giving up on a goal mouth scramble to sneak the ball home but to be fair the away support were still pinching themselves over Harrys goal to truly celebrate. The Home support were still wondering how the smallest player on the pitch scored a headed goal 5 minutes earlier while Taplow rightly earned themselves a booking for protesting over the goal What followed for the next 10 minutes though was a goalkeeping masterclass from Harry in goal, who pulled off 5 one on one saves as Taplow threw everyone forward, giving Penn the confidence that this truly was going to be our deserved day. Zach slammed home the fourth from a ricochet shot from Jack to give the scoreline the kind of supremacy the team showed, and Penn were going home happy again.

PennTylersGreenFC and on twitter

The second half started like the first half, tough challenges, good passing and very little to separate the sides. The next goal would be crucial. Half chances came and went, but what happened next will be remembered long after Bradfords win against Chelsea. The number of headed goals scored by Penn Rangers over 10 years you can count on one hand. You can count on your little finger the number of headers ever won by Harry Pymm. Today was the day the Gaffer Greg Pymm could retire happy. A great cross by Frank sailed over the onrushing Taplow defenders and unmarked at the back post Harry lept like a little salmon and headed into the top corner. Pandemonium in the away “end and 2-0 Penn.

Junior Football

Junior Football Berks & Bucks FA County Cup – U13 Quarter Final – Penn & Tylers Green FC 7 – Langley Hornets 0 Sunday saw the Under 13s progress to the semi-finals of the prestigious Berks and Bucks FA County Cup. Quarter finals are traditionally supposed to be tight affairs, with just a few chances created by either side and the game decided by perhaps a moment of exquisite skill or luck. Sunday’s match was nothing like that. Penn & Tylers Green FC and Tylers Green came out of the blocks faster than Usain Bolt on roller skates. They had taken the lead within a couple of minutes, Josh Peck latching on to Kane Patterson’s perfect through ball. With Langley still in shock from the early strike Penn & Tylers Green FC continued to apply the pressure and almost scored immediately after the restart with Jayden Moore forcing a fine save from the keeper. However Penn & Tylers Green FC made it two nil from the resultant corner with the unfortunate Langley centre back heading into his own net. Penn & Tylers Green FC & Tylers Green then proceeded to demolish what was left of the Langley resistance in a stirring 10 minute spell. Chance after chance was being created by the Penn & Tylers Green FC midfield trio of Patterson, Styles and Berry. Warden and Moore both went close before Patterson made it three, and Styles pounced on the rebound from Turpie’s shot to make it four. So 20 minutes gone and the tie was virtually over with Penn & Tylers Green FC leading 4 nil and playing some wonderful football on a pitch devoid of grass and the consistency of treacle. Two more goals were added before half time. Josh Peck added a second, before Thomas Bantock tapped home after Jack Berry’s free kick had been saved. Six nil at half time and Penn & Tylers Green FC and Tylers Green had played some breath taking football. The second half was a more sedate affair. The pitch had deteriorated to such an extent that football was almost impossible to play on it and to give Langley credit they came out with a renewed determination to avoid total embarrassment. Penn & Tylers Green FC still remained firmly on top and created a number of chances, with Styles putting in the seventh goal just before the end. A note also to the defence of Parkin, Iris, Nugent, Knowles and Morgan who kept Langley at bay all day, restricting them to a single shot on target. So on to the semi-final and a tie against either Hartwell or Newbury from the far flung reaches of Berkshire!
