Penn Reach Next Round of B&B Cup Prestwood 1—4 P&TG FC Today it was all about winning a game, which on paper should have been a regulation victory. Prestwood FC, our former local Hellenic League and Chiltonian League rivals had other ideas and gave us a game, although the balance if play always indicated that a Penn & Tylers Green FC win was to be the likely outcome.
With a one nothing lead we changed ends and started to squeeze up the field of play and kept the game in their half. Good moves were threatened by us but the final ball was just short of the quality required. Good individual efforts by James Pritchard, Chris Hurst and Jonathan Fever were disarmed by the good Prestwood keeper. The Penn & Tylers Green FC boys had to wait until the 59th minute to wait for the second goal. This was just in time when the supporters’ club members arrived late after a stopover in the local brewery. This included our President, who this time brought us luck for a change (his tea appointment with Bismarck must have done him good). A good move down the right, involving Messrs Pritchard, Fever and Bradly ended up with the ball at Chris Hurst’s feet, who blasted the ball into the net from short range. Two substitutions came on for us to freshen up the game (Rino Sepede and Nile O’Meally-Newell) at this stage and if you thought this was now safe, you were mistaken. A defensive error in the 65th minute gave Prestwood a lifeline when their forward stretched out his legs to squeeze the ball past Jamie Jackson. Game one? Not really, a short fuse by one of the Prestwood player deservedly earned him two cautions within five minutes.
They all count and he was in the right position in the first place. The game was now safe and Nile O’Meally-Newell got his brace with a fine low shot in the 9oth minute. Nile deserved his goals as he made a difference when he came on. Final score 4:1 and next round reached.

Against ten men it did not look likely for the opposition to complete any comeback. After Rino Sepede missed a one-on-one on the keeper Nile O’MeallyNewell made the game safe when he managed to score our third goal in the 88th minute with a tap-in from about one inch with his second attempt (!!!) after a good cross from Johnathan Fever.

The breakthrough came in the 15th minute when Chris Hurst was brought down by the Prestwood keeper after an excellent through ball from Dean Munday. Chris took the spot kick himself and confidently placed the ball to the keeper’s right, giving him now chance at all. We were hoping with the lead we would now be playing with confidence and go on to win the game comfortably. But as stated above, the opposition a) never gave up and made it difficult for us and b) we just took it a bit too easy and at times it looked that we never really got into gear.

Match Report Penn & Tylers Green FC Reserves v Wokingham & Emmbrook FC Reserves 3:2
A
nother hard fought game saw Penn & Tylers Green FC Reserves secure a second victory in consecutive weeks against Wokingham & Emmbrook Reserves, continuing their great start to the season and remaining unbeaten thus far. With Matt Miller out injured, there was a real concern of where the goals would come from. And this proved to be the case early on, with both sides playing some attractive football soon saw the boys in blue & white go close twice, with the Wokingham Goalkeeper displaying his shot stopping ability with two outrageous saves. The Penn & Tylers Green FC boys were soon punished for not finishing their chances and found themselves 2-0 down half way through the first half. There was a real urgency to score before half time, and the team responded well with Joshua George and man of the match Ryan Tisdale linking up down the left, with the latter smashing two powerful strikes to get Penn & Tylers Green FC Reserves level before the half-time interval. With their tales up, Penn & Tylers Green FC Reserves continued were they left off, taking control of the game and attacking the Wokingham end. It was not long before Joshua George was released again down the left and stroked a cross to the back post for the oncoming Jamie Hunt for an easy finish and putting the home team into the lead. Ryan Tisdale continued harassing the Wokingham defence and had a few chances to complete his hat-trick but could not find the finish. After the hour mark, the game started to become hard fought with Wokingham trying to find the equaliser and Penn & Tylers Green FC looking for the counter to finish the game. Shaun Walsh picked up the ball from left back and produced a mazy run and a great shot that was tipped onto the bar. Some great defending saw Nathan Sethi at fall stretch to intercept a cross destined for a Wokingham equaliser. Apart from that, Penn & Tylers Green FC Reserves were not troubled throughout the remainder of the half through their relentless hard work through the team, limiting Wokingham chances and rewarding them with another victory keeps their 100% record in the league and hopes of finishing at the top end of the table genuine. Well done also to our veteran keeper Richard Lockey, rolling back the years.
Girls Football The FA’s Youth Trust Award for Fair Play for 2013/2014
We
are delighted to announce that Penn & Tylers Green FC Under 14 Girls have been awarded The FA’s Youth Trust Award for Fair Play for 2013/2014 within the counties of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. The award is recognition for the girls team’s outstanding contribution to the FA’s RESPECT programme and for promoting fair and enjoyable football for young people. Lisa Welling, of the Berks & Bucks Football Association and Secretary of the Bucks Girls Football League, commented “I really enjoyed refereeing the girls at a local Tournament, and thought they deserved the award for their lovely attitude towards the game which was reiterated by their League officials.” RESPECT is The FA’s programme to help ensure a safe, positive environment in which people can participate in the game, which has been supported by such luminaries as actor Ray Winstone (Ray’s video at http://www.thefa.com/myfootball/more/respect/respect-resources is well worth a watch). Penn & Tylers Green FC, as befits our status as a FA Community Charter Standard Club, fully supports the RESPECT programme which is enshrined its ethos in the club’s constitution. The girls are still on the lookout for new players, particularly school year 10. Pre-Season Friendly Archive—July 2014 Ascot United 4—1 P&TG FC This was good workout for the boys in blue & white. The first pre-season friendly at Cantley Park in Wokingham, Berkshire versus Ascot United went very well despite the defeat. Gaffer Giovanni Sepede got a good insight into the players available today. With ten players missing from the squad today the 13 available players produced some good football, particularly in the first half. Without a regular goal keeper today we knew that we might concede a goal or two.

The result was not important today. After four hard training sessions Penn & Tylers Green FC needed to get the first preseason friendly out of the way in order to get into gear. The management team was happy with the workout today. Three nil down at half time we kept going after the break and drew the second half one each with Danny Jordan getting our goal from the penalty spot.

On a very hot and humid day on a very slow pitch (the grass does not appear to have been cut for a while) it was a good footballing session with both teams trying out some new players. It was pleasing to see that our movement, particularly in the first half was good and the passing accurate, creating chances in the process. We conceded some sloppy goals and missed opportunities to score ourselves, including a missed penalty.
